Role Overview

Horizon Air is seeking dedicated and dynamic individuals to join its team as Flight Attendants. Based in Anchorage, Alaska, this full-time position involves flying regionally throughout the West, providing exceptional inflight experiences for guests. As a Horizon Air Flight Attendant, representing Alaska Airlines, the primary focus is always the safety and well-being of passengers and crew. This role requires bringing a professional demeanor and positive attitude to work daily, managing a flexible schedule, upholding high company standards, and creating memorable moments for travelers. The Flight Attendant serves as the face of the airline, acting as an authentic and gracious host while possessing in-depth knowledge of both inflight service duties and critical safety procedures. A strong desire to maintain a positive, approachable manner with both guests and fellow employees is essential to contributing to an airline people love. This position is represented by a union.

Key Responsibilities

The Flight Attendant performs a variety of duties crucial to ensuring passenger safety and comfort, including:

  • Maintaining full compliance with all safety regulations.
  • Ensuring all safety equipment on the aircraft is in proper working order.
  • Greeting passengers warmly and assisting with seating assignments, carry-on baggage stowage, and security procedures.
  • Clearly explaining and demonstrating the use of safety equipment and emergency procedures for the aircraft.
  • Preparing and serving meals and beverages, including alcoholic selections.
  • Effectively marketing onboard products, such as meals and inflight entertainment, and processing sales using a mobile device.
  • Calmly resolving passenger situations that may arise during flight, including handling medical emergencies.
  • Answering guest questions regarding flight operations and providing destination information.
  • Performing additional duties as assigned by the Purser or Flight Operations leadership.

Additional Information

Candidates applying for this role will be asked to complete an audio assessment as part of the selection process, which typically takes approximately 40 minutes.

Training: Successful candidates must attend four (4) weeks of paid training, which is held in Portland, Oregon.

Policy Considerations: Horizon Air maintains specific appearance standards, including a tattoo policy. Permitted tattoos are restricted by size and location: none visible on the face, front of the neck, or chest. One tattoo the size of a quarter or smaller is allowed per hand. Tattoos in other areas (arm, leg, foot, back of neck, behind each ear, back) cannot exceed the size of a credit card and must not be offensive. Tattoos on the back of the neck or behind the ears must not be visible when directly facing a person. Tattoos may only be covered by a uniform piece or approved jewelry/watch; covering with makeup is not permitted.

Qualifications

Required:

  • A minimum of two years of customer or community service experience.
  • An uncompromising dedication to safety standards.
  • Ability to meet specific aircraft dimension requirements concerning body size (e.g., fitting comfortably in a jump seat, harness, cabin aisle, and emergency exits without modification).
  • Ability to adhere strictly to the company's grooming, uniform, and appearance standards.
  • Demonstrated physical ability to perform all duties required of a flight attendant.
  • Willingness and ability to relocate to any of Horizon Air's flight attendant bases: Seattle, WA; Portland, OR; Medford, OR; Boise, ID; Spokane, WA; Anchorage, AK; or Everett, WA.
  • Willingness to serve alcohol to passengers.
  • Basic computer literacy and comfort utilizing technology.
  • Flexibility to work varied schedules, including nights, weekends, and holidays.
  • Ability and willingness to travel extensively.
  • Possession of adaptability to perform a variety of duties effectively and maintain composure under stress.
  • Ability to attend the mandatory four-week paid training program in Portland, OR.
  • Possession of, or ability to obtain, a current passport with unlimited access in and out of the United States. Employees with non-U.S. passports must also possess any required appropriate travel documentation and be able to fly unrestricted in and out of Canada.
  • Ability to communicate fluently in English.
  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Minimum age of 21 years old.
  • Must be authorized to work in the U.S.

Airport SIDA Badge Requirements:

Employment in this role requires working at an airport or maintenance hangar location. Employees are required to obtain and maintain a SIDA badge issued by the airport authority. Maintaining good standing is necessary to keep the SIDA badge. Failure to qualify for or loss of a SIDA badge will result in termination of employment.   • Salary: The first-year step rate for this union-represented position is $20.66 per hour, as outlined in the collective bargaining agreement between Horizon Air and the AFA.
