Position Summary
The Director, Inflight Training & Standards is a pivotal leadership role responsible for shaping the long-term strategy and overseeing the financial performance of Inflight training and standards at Horizon Air. This position provides strategic direction for a team of leaders, focusing on flight attendant safety, initial and recurrent training, service training, regulatory compliance, safety management, and Inflight leadership development. The Director plays a crucial role in ensuring all training programs align with Horizon Air’s operational objectives and regulatory requirements, fostering a culture of excellence and continuous improvement.
Key Responsibilities
- Establishes strategic goals and direction for a diverse team of people leaders across multiple disciplines, including Inflight training, compliance, safety, systems, and development.
- Sets and implements the long-term strategy for Inflight training and standards, with a 12+ month horizon, ensuring alignment with Horizon Air’s operational and regulatory objectives.
- Develops talent through effective performance management and ongoing feedback, emphasizing strategic and systems thinking, and contributing to succession planning across teams and disciplines.
- Shapes the team's culture through deliberate action, consistent presence, and reinforcement of behaviors that support safety, compliance, service excellence, and professional development.
- Directs all aspects of Inflight training and leadership programs, encompassing the development, delivery, assessment, and standardization of initial, recurrent, and service training.
- Oversees safety management systems (SMS), conducts safety risk assessments, and ensures robust regulatory compliance with both FAA and company standards.
- Establishes and maintains consistency in Flight Attendant Regulations (FARs) and qualifications through comprehensive training programs and instructor development, including audits and regulatory assessments.
- Partners with the FAA to secure approval for new and revised training curriculum segments and provides expert interpretation of regulatory requirements related to Inflight services.
- Influences Inflight training strategy by driving innovation in training technologies and delivery methods, and collaborates cross-divisionally to align on common training strategies.
- Partners with the Association of Flight Attendants (AFA) and Brand Marketing to ensure compliance with contractual obligations and the consistent delivery of service standards that reflect Horizon’s brand identity.
- Participates in the Duty Officer program and is prepared to fly as a working crew member as needed to maintain operational readiness.
Qualifications
Required Experience, Education & Skills
- Seven (7) years of experience in inflight, training, safety, or compliance, or a combination of these disciplines.
- Four (4) years of leadership experience, with at least two (2) of those years directly leading people.
- A Bachelor’s degree in a related field, or an additional two (2) years of relevant experience in lieu of a degree.
- Ability to successfully complete Horizon Air’s initial training/IOE, obtain and hold an FAA flight attendant certificate, and remain qualified through recurrent training.
- Operational flexibility, including the ability to work nights, weekends, holidays, and fly as a working crew member as needed.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook).
- Authorization to work in the US and legally enter/exit the US & Canada.
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Minimum age of 21 and willingness and ability to serve alcohol.
Preferred Experience, Education & Skills
- Experience managing multiple workgroups and leading cross-functional teams.
- Demonstrated knowledge of 14CFR Part 121 air carrier operations, approved training programs, and inflight operations.
- Familiarity with appropriate FAA Advisory Circulars, applicable regulatory guidance, and the flight attendant certification processes.
- Proven ability to lead and deliver cross-divisional projects on time and within budget.
- Strong strategic thinking capabilities and the ability to influence operational outcomes, set direction, and execute action plans effectively.
- Demonstrated ability to leverage business acumen and analytics to negotiate and align strategies across divisions.
- Ability to rapidly organize complex information, adapt to new systems and processes, and lead others through change.
- A leadership style that reflects passion, humility, and resolve, with a strong commitment to working collaboratively beyond divisional boundaries.
- Outstanding communication (verbal, written, presentation) and interpersonal skills, with the ability to forge collaborative relationships that drive positive outcomes with internal stakeholders and key external business partners.

Compensation & Benefits
Salary Range: $101,550 - $157,400 / year
Total Target Compensation Range (incl. bonus & equity): $133,816 - $206,420
The listed pay range and total target compensation package represent the expected compensation for this position at the start of employment. Actual pay will be determined by multiple factors, including location, relevant experience, skillset, and internal equity.
