Role Summary
Hawaiian Airlines is seeking dedicated professionals to join its team as Flight Attendants. The primary responsibility is to ensure the safety and security of guests aboard company aircraft by being capable of performing safety procedures and assisting guests during emergencies. Flight Attendants operate in a fast-paced environment, managing emergency situations and interacting with diverse personalities in an attentive and pleasant manner. Secondarily, Flight Attendants provide a consistent level of customer service during flights, including food and beverage service, delivering an exceptional Aloha experience. This is a union-represented position.
Key Duties
- Attend preflight briefings to review flight details, emergency procedures, and onboard services.
- Prepare the aircraft cabin for boarding and departure.
- Greet guests, assist with seating and luggage, and respond to inquiries.
- Demonstrate the use of safety equipment and monitor guest compliance with safety regulations.
- Direct and assist guests during emergency procedures, including evacuations, and administer first aid as needed.
- Complete written and verbal reports for emergency or safety-related incidents.
- Provide consistent food and beverage service and process payments for onboard purchases.
- Prepare guests and the cabin for landing and assist with deplaning.
- Successfully complete annual FAA-approved re-certification and maintain knowledge of emergency procedures.
- Obtain and maintain authorization for unescorted access to aircraft and SIDA areas.
- Collaborate effectively with crew members to ensure a seamless guest experience.
- Maintain professionalism, identify and escalate potential issues.
- Meet the physical demands of flying at high altitudes and working varied schedules, including evenings, weekends, and holidays.
- Respond promptly and pleasantly to guest inquiries, requests, and complaints.
- Assist ill or incapacitated passengers and fellow crew members.
- Evacuate the aircraft in emergency situations, such as heavy smoke during a cabin fire.
- Access, handle, and operate emergency equipment, including oxygen bottles and fire extinguishers.
- Remove and lift emergency cabin windows (up to 60 pounds).
- Descend emergency slides from a height of approximately 24.5 feet.
Qualifications and Requirements
- Two (2) years of direct customer experience in the hospitality or airline industry OR four (4) years of customer contact and customer service issue resolution with the general public in industries such as retail, education, health care, and/or professional services.
- Vertical reach of 82 inches.
- Ability to learn and maintain current knowledge and competency of emergency procedures in accordance with Hawaiian and FAA Regulations.
- Demonstrated strong customer service skills and ability to effectively diffuse and resolve difficult customer situations.
- Ability to work in an environment subject to varying climatic conditions, gravitational loads, and cabin pressurization changes.
- Ability to stand for up to four to seventeen hours, performing stooping, twisting, and pulling/pushing cabin equipment.
- Must be able to lift 25 lbs. from floor to above shoulder height.
- Comfortable being in a swimming pool with a life vest during emergency training and in water during an inflight emergency.
- Able to properly secure oneself in a jump seat with harness without using a seat belt extension; able to expeditiously move through the cabin aisle in emergency and non-emergency situations.
- Successfully complete an FAA-approved, unpaid eight (8) week intensive training program provided by Hawaiian Airlines.
- Able to serve alcohol.
- Able to relocate within the state of Hawaii or the continental U.S.
- Able to read, write, and speak English proficiently.
- Successfully pass tuberculosis (TB) test.
- Must be in possession of a valid passport and be able to secure applicable visas for travel to countries served by Hawaiian Airlines.
- Must possess the legal right to travel from all countries served by Hawaiian Airlines.
- Travel documents must remain valid throughout all phases of training and employment.
- Able to work alternative schedules, including evenings, weekends, and holidays.
- High school diploma or GED equivalent.
- Minimum age of 21.
- Must be authorized to work in the U.S.
- Must present a professional image, adhering to appearance guidelines regarding visible body art, piercings, and hair color/style while in uniform.
Preferred Qualifications
- College education or degree.
Additional Information
- Training will be held in Honolulu and consists of eight (8) weeks of unpaid training.
- Hiring is for Hawaiian Airlines West Coast bases.
- Classes are pooling for 2025.
- First year step rate: $28.96 per contract.
