Role Summary

The primary responsibility of a Hawaiian Airlines Flight Attendant is to ensure the safety and security of all guests aboard company aircraft. This involves being physically and psychologically prepared to execute safety procedures and assist passengers during emergencies. Flight Attendants operate in a dynamic environment, requiring the ability to manage critical situations and interact positively with diverse individuals, all while providing attentive and pleasant service.

Secondarily, Flight Attendants deliver a consistent and high standard of customer service within the aircraft cabin. This includes offering food and beverage service and ensuring every guest receives an exceptional Aloha experience. This is a union-represented position.

Key Responsibilities

  • Preflight Preparation & Briefings: Attend preflight briefings covering flight details, weather, route, emergency procedures, crew coordination, flight duration, and onboard services. Prepare the aircraft cabin for boarding and departure to ensure readiness.
  • Guest Interaction & Assistance: Extend a warm greeting to guests, assist them to their seats, and help with stowing carry-on luggage. Respond to guest inquiries promptly and courteously throughout the flight.
  • Safety Demonstrations & Compliance: Conduct clear demonstrations of safety equipment, including seat belts, oxygen masks, and life jackets. Monitor guest adherence to safety regulations and address any non-compliance professionally.
  • Emergency Response & Incident Reporting: Lead and assist guests during emergency procedures, including evacuations. Administer first aid as needed and complete detailed reports for any emergency or safety-related incidents.
  • In-Flight Service Delivery: Provide consistent food and beverage service in accordance with airline standards. Process payments for onboard purchases, including meals, beverages, and duty-free items.
  • Landing Preparation & Post-Flight Duties: Prepare guests and the cabin for landing according to established procedures. Ensure the cabin is secure and assist guests during deplaning.
  • Training & Regulatory Compliance: Successfully complete annual FAA-approved re-certification training and maintain up-to-date knowledge of emergency procedures as per FAA and airline regulations. Obtain and maintain authorization for unescorted access to aircraft and SIDA areas.
  • Teamwork, Professionalism & Physical Readiness: Collaborate effectively with crew members to ensure a seamless and pleasant guest experience. Uphold professionalism, identify and escalate potential issues, and meet the physical demands of high-altitude flying and varied work schedules, including evenings, weekends, and holidays.
  • Guest Experience Enhancement: Work collaboratively with colleagues to deliver an enduring Aloha experience by providing prompt and pleasant responses to guest inquiries, requests, and complaints.
  • Emergency Preparedness: During emergencies, flight attendants may be required to perform duties such as assisting ill passengers or crew, evacuating the aircraft in smoke-filled conditions, operating emergency equipment (including fire extinguishers and oxygen bottles), removing and lifting emergency cabin windows (up to 60 lbs), and descending emergency slides from approximately 24.5 feet. All outlined duties, including emergency responsibilities, are considered essential functions of the role.

Qualifications and Requirements

Required Skills and Experience

  • A minimum of two (2) years of direct customer service experience in the hospitality or airline industry, OR four (4) years of customer contact and issue resolution experience in industries such as retail, education, healthcare, or professional services.
  • Proficiency in speaking business-level Italian and reading Latin script.
  • Ability to achieve a vertical reach of 82 inches.
  • Successful completion of annual FAA-approved re-certification as provided by Hawaiian Airlines.
  • Demonstrated ability to learn and maintain current knowledge of emergency procedures in accordance with Hawaiian and FAA Regulations.
  • Strong customer service acumen and the proven ability to effectively de-escalate and resolve challenging customer situations.
  • Adaptability to diverse working conditions, including varying climates, gravitational loads from turbulence, and cabin pressurization levels. Ability to stand for extended periods (four to seventeen hours) and perform tasks requiring stooping, twisting, and manipulation of cabin equipment.
  • Ability to lift a minimum of 25 lbs from floor to above shoulder height.
  • Comfort participating in water survival training in a swimming pool with a life vest and managing in-water situations during an inflight emergency.
  • Ability to properly secure oneself in a jump seat with a harness (without a seat belt extension) and move expeditiously through the cabin aisle in both emergency and non-emergency situations.
  • Successful completion of an FAA-approved, intensive, eight (8) week unpaid training program provided by Hawaiian Airlines.
  • Ability to serve alcohol responsibly.
  • Willingness to relocate within the state of Hawaii or the continental U.S.
  • Proficient written and spoken English language skills.
  • Successful completion of a tuberculosis (TB) test.
  • Possession of a valid passport and the ability to secure applicable visas for international travel.
  • Legal authorization to travel to all countries served by Hawaiian Airlines.
  • Travel documents must remain valid throughout all phases of training and employment.
  • Availability to work flexible schedules, including evenings, weekends, and holidays.
  • High school diploma or GED equivalent.
  • Minimum age of 21 years.
  • Must be authorized to work in the U.S.

Preferred Qualifications

  • College education or degree.

Additional Information

  • Candidates must present a professional image. Visible body art (including tattoos), facial piercings, multiple or upper ear piercings, gauge piercings, or extreme hair colors/styles are not permitted while in uniform or in public areas.
  • Bases may be assigned upon hiring. Classes are scheduled to begin in 2026.
  • Mandatory, unpaid FAA training will be conducted in Honolulu for eight (8) weeks.

Compensation and Benefits

Starting Rate: USD $0.00/Hr.

Alaska Seniority List Pay: First-year step rate of $32.00 per contract.

Hawaiian Seniority List Pay: First-year step rate of $28.96 per contract.
