Role Overview
Hawaiian Airlines is actively recruiting Flight Attendants for its West Coast bases. This crucial role ensures the paramount safety of all guests aboard company aircraft, requiring the incumbent to be physically and psychologically prepared to execute safety procedures and respond effectively during emergencies. The position demands the ability to thrive in a fast-paced environment, manage emergency situations with composure, and interact professionally with diverse personalities, all while maintaining an attentive and pleasant demeanor.
In addition to safety responsibilities, Flight Attendants are instrumental in delivering a consistent and high-quality customer service experience within the aircraft cabin. This includes providing exceptional food and beverage service, ensuring an unsurpassed Aloha experience for every guest. This is a union-represented position.
Key Responsibilities
- Preflight Preparation & Briefings: Participate in preflight briefings to review flight details, including weather, route, altitude, emergency protocols, crew coordination, flight duration, and onboard services. Ensure the aircraft cabin is fully prepared and ready for guest boarding and departure.
- Guest Interaction & Assistance: Extend a warm welcome to guests, guide them to their seats, and provide assistance with stowing carry-on luggage. Address flight-related inquiries and deliver prompt, courteous service throughout the flight.
- Safety Demonstrations & Compliance: Conduct clear demonstrations of safety equipment, such as seat belts, oxygen masks, and life jackets. Monitor guest adherence to safety regulations and address any non-compliance professionally and effectively.
- Emergency Response & Incident Reporting: Lead and assist guests during emergency procedures, including evacuations. Administer first aid as necessary and meticulously document all emergency or safety-related incidents through written and verbal reports.
- In-Flight Service Delivery: Execute food and beverage service in accordance with established airline procedures. Process payments accurately for onboard purchases, including meals, alcoholic beverages, and duty-free items.
- Landing Preparation & Post-Flight Duties: Prepare guests and the cabin for landing by adhering to all established procedures. Ensure the cabin is secured and assist guests with deplaning as required.
- Training & Regulatory Compliance: Successfully complete annual FAA-approved recertification training and maintain up-to-date knowledge of emergency procedures as mandated by FAA and airline regulations. Must obtain and maintain authorization for unescorted access to aircraft and SIDA areas.
- Teamwork, Professionalism & Physical Readiness: Collaborate effectively with fellow crew members to ensure a seamless and enjoyable guest experience. Uphold professional standards, identify and escalate potential issues, and meet the physical demands of high-altitude flying and varied work schedules, including evenings, weekends, and holidays.
- Guest Service Excellence: Work collaboratively with colleagues to provide an enduring aloha experience by responding promptly and pleasantly to guest inquiries, requests, and complaints during flights.
- Emergency Preparedness: Perform essential duties during emergency situations, which may include, but are not limited to: assisting ill or incapacitated passengers and crew, evacuating the aircraft in smoky conditions during a cabin fire, operating emergency equipment such as oxygen bottles and fire extinguishers, removing and lifting emergency cabin windows (up to 60 pounds), and egressing via emergency slides from heights of approximately 24.5 feet. All outlined duties, including emergency procedures, are considered essential functions of the Flight Attendant role.
Qualifications and Requirements
Required:
- A minimum of two (2) years of direct customer experience in the hospitality or airline industry, OR a minimum of four (4) years of customer contact and issue resolution experience with the general public in industries such as retail, education, healthcare, and/or professional services.
- Proficient ability to speak business-level Japanese and read Romaji or Kanji.
- Minimum vertical reach of 82 inches.
- Successful completion of annual FAA-approved recertification training provided by Hawaiian Airlines.
- Demonstrated ability to learn and maintain current knowledge and competency of emergency procedures in accordance with Hawaiian Airlines and FAA regulations.
- Strong customer service skills with the ability to effectively de-escalate and resolve challenging customer situations.
- Ability to work effectively in an environment subject to varying climatic conditions, variable gravitational loads induced by turbulence, and varying cabin pressurization levels. Requires the ability to stand for extended periods (four to seventeen hours), including stooping, twisting, and pulling/pushing cabin equipment.
- Ability to lift 25 lbs. from floor to above shoulder height.
- Comfort in a swimming pool with a life vest during emergency training and in water during an inflight emergency.
- Ability to properly secure oneself in a jump seat with a harness, without a seat belt extension, and to move expeditiously through the cabin aisle in both emergency and non-emergency situations.
- Successful completion of an FAA-approved, unpaid eight (8) week intensive training program conducted by Hawaiian Airlines.
- Ability to serve alcohol.
- Willingness to relocate within the state of Hawaii or the continental U.S.
- Proficient ability to read, write, and speak English.
- Successful completion of a tuberculosis (TB) test.
- Possession of a valid passport and the ability to obtain applicable visas for travel to countries served by Hawaiian Airlines.
- Legal authorization to travel from all countries served by Hawaiian Airlines.
- Travel documents must remain valid throughout all phases of training and employment.
- Availability to work alternative schedules, including evenings, weekends, and holidays.
- High school diploma or GED equivalent.
- Minimum age of 21 years old.
- Authorization to work in the U.S.
- Must present a professional image. Visible body art (including tattoos), facial, multiple or upper ear piercings, gauge piercings, or extreme hair color or style are not permitted while in the Flight Attendant Uniform or in any public areas.
Preferred:
- College education or degree.
Compensation and Benefits
This position pays in accordance with the collective bargaining agreement. Specific rates for the first year are detailed below:
- Alaska Seniority List Pay: First-year step rate: $32.00 per hour (per contract).
- Hawaiian Seniority List Pay: First-year step rate: $28.96 per hour (per contract).

- Classes are being pooled for 2026.
- FAA Training Requirement: Training will be conducted in Honolulu and spans eight (8) weeks of unpaid instruction.
- Airport SIDA Badge Requirements: Employees working at an airport or maintenance hangar must obtain and maintain a SIDA badge issued by the airport authority. Failure to qualify for or maintain a SIDA badge will result in termination.
- Drug Testing: As a government contractor regulated by the Department of Transportation (DOT 49 CFR part 40), applicants will undergo post-offer and/or pre-employment drug testing for marijuana, cocaine, opioids, phencyclidine (PCP), and amphetamines. A positive test result or refusal to test will render the applicant ineligible for employment.
