Job Summary
The primary responsibility of a Hawaiian Airlines Flight Attendant is to uphold the highest standards of guest safety during all flights. This requires the physical and psychological capability to execute safety procedures and effectively manage emergency situations. Flight Attendants operate in a fast-paced environment, adeptly handling unexpected circumstances and interacting with diverse personalities in a professional and pleasant manner. Secondarily, they are responsible for delivering a consistent and exceptional level of customer service within the aircraft cabin, including food and beverage service, thereby reinforcing the unique Aloha experience. This is a union-represented position.
Key Duties and Responsibilities
- Preflight Preparation & Briefings: Participate in preflight briefings to review essential flight details, including weather patterns, routes, altitudes, emergency protocols, crew coordination, flight durations, and onboard services. Prepare the aircraft cabin to ensure readiness for guest boarding and departure.
- Guest Interaction & Assistance: Extend a warm welcome to all guests, guide them to their assigned seats, and provide assistance with the secure stowage of carry-on luggage. Respond promptly and courteously to all guest inquiries and requests throughout the flight.
- Safety Demonstrations & Compliance: Conduct clear and concise demonstrations of safety equipment, such as seat belts, oxygen masks, and life jackets. Vigilantly monitor guest adherence to safety regulations, addressing any non-compliance professionally and effectively.
- Emergency Response & Incident Reporting: Provide calm and decisive leadership during emergency situations, including directing and assisting guests during evacuations. Administer first aid as required and meticulously document all emergency or safety-related incidents through written and verbal reports.
- In-Flight Service Delivery: Deliver consistent food and beverage services in strict accordance with airline procedures. Accurately collect and reconcile payments for onboard purchases, including meals, alcoholic beverages, and duty-free items.
- Landing Preparation & Post-Flight Duties: Ensure guests and the cabin are prepared for landing by adhering to established procedures. Secure the cabin and assist with guest deplaning as necessary.
- Training & Regulatory Compliance: Successfully complete annual FAA-approved re-certification training and maintain up-to-date knowledge of all emergency procedures as mandated by the FAA and airline regulations. Obtain and maintain authorization for unescorted access to aircraft and SIDA (Security Identification Display Area) areas.
- Teamwork, Professionalism & Physical Readiness: Collaborate effectively with fellow crew members to ensure a seamless and enjoyable guest experience. Uphold a high level of professionalism, proactively identify and escalate potential issues, and meet the physical demands associated with high-altitude flying and varied work schedules, including evenings, weekends, and holidays.
- Guest Service Excellence: Work collaboratively with colleagues to provide a consistently positive aloha experience, responding promptly and pleasantly to guest inquiries, requests, and complaints during flights.
- Emergency Preparedness: Be prepared to perform essential emergency duties, which may include, but are not limited to: assisting ill or incapacitated passengers and crew members; evacuating the aircraft in dense smoke during a cabin fire; accessing, handling, and operating emergency equipment such as oxygen bottles and fire extinguishers; removing and lifting emergency cabin windows (weighing up to 60 pounds); and egressing via emergency slides from a height of approximately 24.5 feet. All outlined duties, including emergency procedures, are considered essential functions of the Flight Attendant role.
Additional Requirements and Details
- Applicants must present a professional image. Visible body art (including tattoos), facial piercings, multiple or upper ear piercings, gauge piercings, or extreme hair colors/styles are not permitted while in uniform or in public areas.
- Bases will be assigned upon hire. Hiring will include classes in 2026.
- FAA training, which is unpaid and eight (8) weeks in duration, will be conducted in Honolulu.
Job-Specific Experience, Education & Skills
Required Qualifications:
- A minimum of two (2) years of direct customer experience within the hospitality or airline industry, OR four (4) years of customer contact and issue resolution experience with the general public in sectors such as retail, education, healthcare, or professional services.
- Proficiency in speaking business-level Korean and reading Korean characters (Hangul).
- Ability to achieve a vertical reach of 82 inches.
- Successful completion of annual FAA-approved re-certification training provided by Hawaiian Airlines.
- Demonstrated ability to learn and maintain current knowledge and competency of emergency procedures in accordance with Hawaiian Airlines and FAA regulations.
- Strong customer service skills with the ability to effectively de-escalate and resolve challenging customer situations.
- Ability to work effectively in an environment subject to varying climatic conditions, turbulence-induced gravitational loads, and variable cabin pressurization. Must be able to stand for extended periods (up to four to seventeen hours), which may involve stooping, twisting, and operating cabin equipment.
- Physical capability to lift 25 lbs. from floor to above shoulder height.
- Comfort and ability to participate in emergency training in a swimming pool with a life vest and manage potential water immersion during an inflight emergency.
- Ability to properly secure oneself in a jump seat with a harness (without a seat belt extension) and move expeditiously through the cabin aisle in both emergency and non-emergency situations.
- Successful completion of an FAA-approved, unpaid eight (8) week intensive training program conducted by Hawaiian Airlines.
- Ability to serve alcoholic beverages.
- Willingness to relocate within the state of Hawaii or the continental U.S.
- Proficient ability to read, write, and speak English.
- Successful completion of a tuberculosis (TB) test.
- Possession of a valid passport and the ability to secure applicable visas for international travel served by Hawaiian Airlines.
- Legal authorization to travel from all countries served by Hawaiian Airlines.
- Travel documents must remain valid throughout all phases of training and employment.
- Availability to work alternative schedules, including evenings, weekends, and holidays.
- High school diploma or GED equivalent.
- Minimum age of 21 years old.
- Authorization to work in the U.S.

- A college education or degree.

Salary Details:
- Alaska Seniority List Pay Details: First-year step rate is $32.00 per contract.
- Hawaiian Seniority List Pay Details: First-year step rate is $28.96 per contract.

Airport SIDA Badge Requirements
Employees working at an airport or maintenance hangar will be required to obtain and maintain a SIDA badge in good standing, provided by the airport authority.
