Role Summary: Flight Attendant

The primary responsibility of a Hawaiian Airlines Flight Attendant is to ensure the utmost safety and security of guests during flights. This involves possessing the physical and psychological capability to execute safety procedures and respond effectively during emergencies. In a fast-paced environment, Flight Attendants must skillfully manage emergency situations and interact with diverse personalities in an attentive and pleasant manner.

Secondarily, Flight Attendants are instrumental in delivering a consistent and exceptional level of customer service within the aircraft cabin. This includes providing efficient food and beverage service while ensuring an unparalleled aloha experience for every guest. This is a union-represented position.

Key Duties and Responsibilities

  • Conduct preflight briefings, reviewing essential flight details including weather, routes, emergency procedures, and onboard services. Prepare the aircraft cabin for passenger boarding and departure.
  • Greet guests warmly, assist with seating, and manage carry-on luggage. Address guest inquiries promptly and courteously throughout the flight.
  • Perform and demonstrate the use of safety equipment, including seat belts, oxygen masks, and life jackets. Ensure guest compliance with safety regulations, addressing any infractions professionally.
  • Direct and assist guests during emergency situations, such as evacuations. Administer first aid when necessary and meticulously report all incidents.
  • Deliver consistent food and beverage service according to airline standards. Process payments for onboard purchases, including meals and duty-free items.
  • Prepare guests and the cabin for landing and execute post-flight duties, ensuring cabin security and assisting with deplaning.
  • Successfully complete mandatory annual FAA-approved re-certification training and maintain current knowledge of all emergency procedures. Obtain and maintain authorization for unescorted access to aircraft and SIDA areas.
  • Collaborate effectively with crew members to ensure a seamless and positive guest experience. Maintain professionalism, identify and escalate potential issues, and meet the physical demands of air travel.
  • Work collaboratively with colleagues to provide prompt and pleasant responses to guest inquiries, requests, and complaints, embodying the aloha spirit.
  • Be prepared to perform essential emergency duties, which may include assisting ill passengers, evacuating the aircraft in challenging conditions, operating emergency equipment, and navigating emergency slides.

Job Qualifications and Requirements

Required Qualifications:

  • Minimum of two (2) years of direct customer experience in the hospitality or airline industry, OR four (4) years of customer contact and issue resolution experience in industries such as retail, education, health care, or professional services.
  • Proficiency in speaking business-level Italian and reading Latin script.
  • Vertical reach of 82 inches.
  • Ability to successfully complete annual FAA-approved re-certification.
  • Capacity to learn and maintain current knowledge of emergency procedures in accordance with Hawaiian and FAA regulations.
  • Demonstrated strong customer service skills and the ability to effectively de-escalate and resolve difficult customer situations.
  • Ability to work in an environment with varying climatic conditions, gravitational loads, and cabin pressurization. Must be able to stand for extended periods (four to seventeen hours) and perform tasks involving stooping, twisting, pulling, and pushing.
  • Physical ability to lift 25 lbs. from floor to above shoulder height.
  • Comfortable participating in emergency training in a swimming pool with a life vest and in water during an inflight emergency.
  • Ability to properly secure oneself in a jump seat with a harness and move expeditiously through the cabin aisle in various situations.
  • Successful completion of an FAA-approved, unpaid eight (8) week intensive training program.
  • Ability to serve alcohol.
  • Willingness to relocate within the state of Hawaii or the continental U.S.
  • Proficiency in reading, writing, and speaking English.
  • Successful completion of a tuberculosis (TB) test.
  • Possession of a valid passport and the ability to secure applicable visas for international travel.
  • Legal right to travel from all countries served by Hawaiian Airlines.
  • Travel documents must remain valid throughout training and employment.
  • Availability to work alternative schedules, including evenings, weekends, and holidays.
  • High school diploma or GED equivalent.
  • Minimum age of 21 years.
  • Authorized to work in the U.S.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • College education or degree.

Career Information

Bases: Hawaiian Airlines West Coast bases.

Training: FAA training will be conducted in Honolulu and spans eight (8) weeks of unpaid instruction. Candidates may be assigned a base upon hiring. Classes are anticipated to form in 2026.

Starting Rate: USD $0.00/Hr. (Please refer to specific Collective Bargaining Agreements for detailed hourly rates based on seniority: Alaska Seniority List starts at $32.00/hr for the first year; Hawaiian Seniority List starts at $28.96/hr for the first year.)
