A Hawaiian Airlines Flight Attendant's paramount responsibility is ensuring the safety and well-being of all guests aboard Company aircraft. This demanding yet rewarding role requires individuals to be physically and psychologically prepared to execute critical safety procedures and provide immediate assistance during emergencies. Operating within a dynamic, fast-paced environment, Flight Attendants must expertly manage challenging situations and interact with diverse personalities with attentiveness and grace. Beyond safety, Flight Attendants are integral to delivering consistent, exemplary in-flight customer service, including comprehensive food and beverage service, thereby curating an unsurpassed Aloha experience for every guest.
- Conduct thorough pre-flight briefings covering weather conditions, altitudes, flight routes, emergency protocols, crew coordination, flight durations, and onboard services.
- Extend warm greetings to guests, direct them to their assigned seating, and expertly address flight-related inquiries.
- Assist passengers with the secure stowage of carry-on luggage in overhead compartments and under seats.
- Deliver clear and concise demonstrations of safety equipment usage, including seat belts, oxygen masks, and life jackets, alongside emergency procedures prior to takeoff.
- Actively monitor cabin aisles to ensure guest adherence to safety regulations, enforce policies, address infractions, and skillfully de-escalate and resolve difficult passenger situations.
- Provide expert guidance and assistance to guests during emergency procedures, such as aircraft evacuation following an emergency landing.
- Deliver consistent and professional food and beverage services according to established procedures.
- Efficiently collect and reconcile payments for various onboard products, including alcoholic beverages, meals, and duty-free sales.
- Administer necessary first aid when required.
- Prepare detailed written and verbal reports of all emergency or safety incidents occurring during flight.
- Ensure guests and the aircraft are prepared for landing in strict adherence to established procedures.
- Successfully complete annual FAA-approved re-certification training provided by Hawaiian Airlines.
- Obtain and maintain an Airport Operations Area (AOA) Badge.
- Continuously learn and maintain current knowledge and competency in emergency procedures, adhering strictly to Hawaiian Airlines and FAA Regulations.
- Work flexible schedules, including evenings, weekends, and holidays, adapting to varying climates and global locations.
- Effectively and professionally interact with colleagues and guests, providing prompt, pleasant responses to inquiries, requests, and complaints to ensure a never-ending aloha experience.
- Possess a strong ability to identify and escalate potential problems or safety concerns.
- Maintain the physical capability to fly at high altitudes and meet all rigorous physical demands of the position, including:
- Assisting ill or incapacitated passengers and fellow crew members.
- Evacuating the aircraft in conditions of heavy, dense smoke during a cabin fire.
- Handling and operating oxygen bottles and fire extinguishers.
- Removing and lifting emergency cabin windows, weighing up to 60 pounds.
- Performing an emergency slide jump from an approximate height of 24.5 feet.
- All listed duties, particularly emergency responsibilities, are considered essential functions of the Flight Attendant role.
Hawaiian Airlines will host a recruitment event in Honolulu, Hawaii. Candidates selected for interviews will receive detailed communication regarding exact dates and times. The comprehensive interview process typically includes:
- A Virtual Panel Interview.
- An In-Person Group Interview held in Honolulu, HI.
- An In-Person Final Interview, which incorporates mandatory language testing, held in Honolulu, HI.
Prospective candidates for this distinguished role must fulfill the following criteria:
- Be at least 21 years of age at the time of application.
- Possess a high school diploma or GED equivalent.
- Maintain a professional image free of visible body art (including tattoos), facial, multiple, or upper ear piercings, gauge piercings, or extreme hair color or style while in uniform and in public areas.
- Demonstrate robust customer service skills and a proven ability to effectively diffuse and resolve challenging customer situations.
- Be proficient in reading, writing, and speaking English.
- Possess advanced/business level proficiency in speaking Korean and the ability to read Korean characters (Hangul).
- Successfully complete an FAA-approved, unpaid eight-week intensive training program provided by Hawaiian Airlines.
- Be able to relocate within the state of Hawaii or the continental United States.
- Be available to work alternative schedules, including evenings, weekends, and holidays.
- Possess the ability to reach 82 inches vertically.
- Be able to comfortably sit in a cabin crew jump seat with the seatbelt and shoulder harness securely fastened.
- Successfully complete all pre-employment requirements, including a drug test, tuberculosis (TB) screening, and a background check.
- Be legally authorized to work in the United States without requiring sponsorship for nonimmigrant or immigrant employment visas or status. Hawaiian Airlines does not sponsor applicants for this position.
- Possess a valid passport and be able to secure all applicable visas for travel to countries served by Hawaiian Airlines. Travel documents must remain valid throughout all phases of training and employment, and candidates must possess the legal right to travel from all countries served by Hawaiian Airlines.
- Be prepared to work in an environment subject to varying climatic conditions, variable positive and negative gravitational loads induced by turbulence, and varying levels of cabin pressurization. Flight Attendants are required to stand for extended periods (four to seventeen hours), during which stooping, twisting, pulling, and pushing cabin equipment may be necessary.
- Current Hawaiian Airlines employees must be in good standing with the company.
- Two years of direct customer experience within the hospitality or airline industry.
- Alternatively, four years of experience in customer contact and customer service issue resolution with the general public in sectors such as retail, education, healthcare, or professional services.
- A college education or degree is highly desirable.
Hawaiian Airlines adheres to Department of Transportation (DOT) regulations (49 CFR part 40).
