Hawaiian Airlines is seeking a Japanese Language Qualified Flight Attendant

The airline is seeking a dedicated Flight Attendant, proficient in Japanese, to join its 'ohana. This role offers the opportunity to serve kamaʻāina and introduce the Hawaiian Islands to the world.
The primary function of the Flight Attendant is to ensure the safety of guests aboard company aircraft by being physically and psychologically capable of performing safety procedures and assisting guests in the event of an emergency. The Flight Attendant will work in a fast-paced environment and must be able to handle emergency situations and effectively interact with all types of personalities in an attentive and pleasant manner.
Secondarily, the Flight Attendant provides guests with a consistent and prescribed level of customer service in the aircraft cabin during flight, which includes providing food and beverage service, while delivering an unsurpassed Aloha experience.
Key Responsibilities:
- Attends preflight briefings concerning weather, altitudes, routes, emergency procedures, crew coordination, lengths of flights, food and beverage services offered, and numbers of guests.
- Greets and directs guests to their assigned seats and answers flight-related questions.
- Assists guests with stowing carry-on luggage in overhead compartments or underneath cabin seats.
- Demonstrates the use of safety equipment (e.g., seat belts, oxygen masks, and life jackets) and emergency procedures prior to take-off.
- Walks aisles of planes to check for guest observation of safety regulations, enforces and advises guests of safety infractions, and effectively diffuses and resolves difficult guest situations.
- Directs and assists guests in emergency procedures, such as evacuating a plane following an emergency landing.
- Provides food and beverage service consistently and as prescribed by procedure.
- Collects and reconciles payments for various onboard products such as alcoholic beverages, meals, and duty-free sales.
- Administers first aid, if necessary.
- Makes written and verbal reports of emergency/safety incidents occurring during flight.
- Prepares guests and aircraft for landing, following procedures.
- Satisfactorily completes annual FAA-approved re-certification provided by Hawaiian Airlines.
- Maintains current knowledge and competency of emergency procedures in accordance with Hawaiian and FAA Regulations.
- Maintains the ability to be present to work alternative schedules, including evenings, weekends, and holidays.
- Interacts effectively and professionally with colleagues and guests.
- Works effectively with other colleagues to deliver a never-ending Aloha experience by providing prompt and pleasant responses to guest inquiries, requests, and complaints while aboard the flight.
- Recognizes when something is wrong or is likely to go wrong, identifying the problem and escalating the concern.
- Works in climates and locations across the globe and works variable shifts.
- Flies at high altitude.
- Meets physical demands of the job.
- Assists ill or incapacitated passengers and fellow crew members.
- Evacuates the aircraft in heavy, dense smoke during a cabin fire.
- Handles and operates oxygen bottles and fire extinguishers.
- Removes and lifts emergency cabin windows (weighing up to 60 pounds).
- Jumps down the emergency slide from a height of approximately 24.5 feet.
All job duties, including the emergency duties, outlined above are essential functions of the flight attendant job.
Minimum Requirements:
- Must be 21 years old at the time of application.
- High school diploma or GED equivalent.
- Presents a professional image. May not have visible body art (including tattoos), facial, multiple or upper ear piercing, gauge piercings, or extreme hair color or style while in the Flight Attendant Uniform and while in any physical position in public areas.
- Demonstrates strong customer service skills and ability to effectively diffuse and resolve difficult customer situations.
- Able to read, write, and speak English proficiently.
- Must be able to proficiently speak advanced/business level Japanese and read Romaji or Kanji.
- Successfully completes an FAA-approved, unpaid eight-week intensive training program provided by Hawaiian Airlines.
- Able to relocate within the state of Hawaii or the continental U.S.
- Able to be present to work alternative schedules, including evenings, weekends, and holidays.
- Ability to reach 82 inches vertically.
- Ability to sit in a cabin crew jump seat with seatbelt and shoulder harness fastened.
- Ability to complete pre-employment requirements: Drug Test, tuberculosis (TB), and background check.
- Must be legally authorized to work in the United States.
- Must be in possession of a valid passport and be able to secure applicable visas for travel to countries served by Hawaiian Airlines.
- Must possess the legal right to travel from all countries served by Hawaiian Airlines.
- Travel documents must remain valid throughout all phases of training and employment.
- Ability to obtain and maintain an AOA Badge.
- Flight Attendants work in an environment subject to varying climatic conditions, variable positive and negative gravitational loads induced by turbulence, and varying levels of cabin pressurization. In addition, flight attendants are required to stand for up to four to seventeen hours, during which time stooping, twisting, and pulling and pushing cabin equipment may be necessary.
- Current Employees must be in good standing with the company.
Hawaiian Airlines is regulated by the Department of Transportation (DOT – regulation, 49 CFR part 40) and all applicants are advised that post-offer and/or pre-employment drug testing will be conducted to determine the presence of Marijuana, Cocaine, Opioids, PCP (Phencyclidine), and Amphetamine prior to any offer of employment or transfer into a safety-sensitive position. Failure to submit to testing or positive indications of drug use will render the applicant ineligible for employment with Hawaiian Airlines and any employment offer will be withdrawn.
In addition to routine employment eligibility verification, U.S.-based airlines must gather information to validate country of citizenship and country of birth. Upon hire, documentation proving current country citizenship and birthplace must be provided.

Preferred Qualifications:
- Two years of direct customer experience in the hospitality or airline industry, OR four years of customer contact and customer service issue resolution with the general public in industries such as retail, education, health care, and/or professional services.
- College education or degree.
