Position Summary
The primary responsibility of a Hawaiian Airlines Flight Attendant is to prioritize the safety of our guests while onboard Company aircraft. This includes maintaining the highest level of physical and psychological preparedness to execute safety procedures and provide immediate assistance in emergency situations. Flight Attendants work in a fast-paced environment, requiring the ability to handle demanding situations effectively, interact with diverse personalities with attentiveness and pleasantness, and maintain composure under pressure.
Secondarily, Flight Attendants are responsible for delivering exceptional customer service in the aircraft cabin throughout the flight. This encompasses providing prescribed food and beverage services, ensuring guest comfort, and delivering an unsurpassed Aloha experience.
Key Responsibilities
- Attend preflight briefings encompassing weather conditions, flight routes, emergency procedures, crew coordination, flight duration, food and beverage services, and guest counts.
- Welcome guests with aloha, direct them to their assigned seats, and answer any flight-related inquiries.
- Assist guests with stowing carry-on luggage in overhead compartments or under cabin seats.
- Demonstrate the proper use of safety equipment (seatbelts, oxygen masks, life jackets) and emergency procedures prior to takeoff.
- Regularly patrol the aisles of the aircraft to ensure compliance with safety regulations, enforce and advise guests of safety infractions, and effectively address and resolve any challenging guest situations.
- Provide clear and concise direction and assistance to guests during emergency procedures, including evacuation following an emergency landing.
- Deliver food and beverage service consistently and adhering to established procedures.
- Collect and reconcile payments for various onboard products, including alcoholic beverages, meals, and duty-free items.
- Administer first aid when necessary.
- Prepare comprehensive written and verbal reports of any emergency or safety incidents occurring during flight.
- Prepare guests and the aircraft for landing, following established procedures.
- Successfully complete annual FAA-approved re-certification programs provided by Hawaiian Airlines.
- Obtain and maintain an AOA Badge.
- Demonstrate the ability to learn and maintain current knowledge and competency of emergency procedures in accordance with Hawaiian and FAA Regulations.
- Maintain availability to work alternative schedules, including evenings, weekends, and holidays.
- Effectively and professionally interact with colleagues and guests.
- Collaborate effectively with fellow crew members to deliver an unparalleled aloha experience by providing prompt, pleasant responses to guest inquiries, requests, and complaints throughout the flight.
- Possess keen observational skills to identify potential problems or issues, recognizing the need for escalation when necessary.
- Maintain the ability to work in diverse climates and locations across the globe, adapting to variable shift schedules.
- Demonstrate the physical capacity to fly at high altitude.
- Meet the physical demands of the role, including:
- Assisting ill or incapacitated passengers and fellow crew members.
- Evacuating the aircraft in heavy, dense smoke during a cabin fire.
- Handling and operating oxygen bottles and fire extinguishers.
- Removing and lifting emergency cabin windows (weighing up to 60 pounds).
- Jumping down the emergency slide from a height of approximately 24.5 feet.
All of the job duties, including the emergency duties outlined above, are considered essential functions of the Flight Attendant position.
Minimum Requirements
- Minimum age of 21 years at the time of application.
- High school diploma or GED equivalent.
- A professional appearance, with no visible body art (including tattoos), facial, multiple or upper ear piercings, gauge piercings, or extreme hair color or style while in the Flight Attendant Uniform and in public areas.
- Demonstrated strong customer service skills and the ability to effectively de-escalate and resolve difficult customer situations.
- Proficiency in reading, writing, and speaking English.
- Successful completion of an FAA-approved, unpaid eight-week intensive training program provided by Hawaiian Airlines.
- Willingness to relocate within the state of Hawaii or the continental U.S.
- Availability to work alternative schedules, including evenings, weekends, and holidays.
- Ability to reach 82 inches vertically.
- Ability to sit in a cabin crew jump seat with seatbelt and shoulder harness fastened.
- Ability to complete pre-employment requirements: Drug Test, tuberculosis (TB) and background check.
- Legal authorization to work in the United States.
- Possession of a valid passport and the ability to secure applicable visas for travel to countries served by Hawaiian Airlines.
- Legal right to travel from all countries served by Hawaiian Airlines.
- Travel documents must remain valid throughout all phases of training and employment.
- Flight Attendants work in an environment subject to varying climatic conditions, variable positive and negative gravitational loads induced by turbulence, and varying levels of cabin pressurization. In addition, flight attendants are required to stand for up to four to seventeen hours, during which time stooping, twisting, and pulling and pushing cabin equipment may be necessary.
- Current Employees must be in good standing with the company.
Important Notes
- Hawaiian Airlines is regulated by the Department of Transportation (DOT - regulation, 49 CFR part 40). All applicants are advised that post-offer and/or pre-employment drug testing will be conducted to determine the presence of Marijuana, Cocaine, Opioids, PCP (Phencyclidine), and Amphetamine prior to any offer of employment or transfer into a safety-sensitive position. Failure to submit to testing or positive indications of drug use will render the applicant ineligible for employment with Hawaiian Airlines, and any employment offer will be withdrawn.
- In addition to routine employment eligibility verification, U.S.-based airlines must gather information to validate country of citizenship and country of birth. Upon hire, you must provide documentation proving your current country citizenship and birthplace.
- Must be legally authorized to work in the United States, for any employer, without sponsorship. Hawaiian Airlines will not sponsor applicants for nonimmigrant or immigrant employment visas or status for this position.
Preferred Qualifications
- Two years of direct customer experience in the hospitality or airline industry, OR four years of customer contact and customer service issue resolution with the general public in industries such as retail, education, healthcare, and/or professional services.
- College education or degree.
