Flight Attendant - Japanese Language Qualified
Hawaiian Airlines is seeking a highly motivated and customer-oriented individual to join our team as a Flight Attendant with Japanese language proficiency. Position Summary:
As a Flight Attendant, your primary responsibility is to ensure the safety and well-being of our guests while aboard our aircraft. This includes being proficient in safety procedures and providing assistance in emergency situations. You will work in a fast-paced environment and must possess the ability to handle emergency situations effectively, maintain composure, and interact professionally with diverse personalities.
Key Responsibilities:
- Attend pre-flight briefings to receive information on weather conditions, flight routes, emergency procedures, crew coordination, flight durations, food and beverage services, and guest counts.
- Greet and direct guests to their assigned seats, addressing any flight-related inquiries with a friendly and helpful demeanor.
- Assist guests with stowing carry-on luggage in overhead compartments or under cabin seats.
- Demonstrate the proper use of safety equipment, such as seat belts, oxygen masks, and life jackets, and explain emergency procedures prior to takeoff.
- Patrol the aircraft aisles to ensure compliance with safety regulations, address any safety infractions, and effectively resolve challenging guest situations.
- Guide and assist guests in emergency procedures, including aircraft evacuation following an emergency landing.
- Provide consistent and efficient food and beverage service according to prescribed procedures.
- Collect and reconcile payments for onboard products such as alcoholic beverages, meals, and duty-free items.
- Administer first aid, if necessary.
- Prepare comprehensive written and verbal reports regarding any emergency or safety incidents occurring during the flight.
- Prepare guests and the aircraft for landing according to established procedures.
- Maintain current knowledge and competency in emergency procedures aligned with Hawaiian Airlines and FAA regulations.
- Work flexible schedules, including evenings, weekends, and holidays.
- Collaborate effectively with colleagues to deliver an exceptional aloha experience by providing prompt and courteous responses to guest inquiries, requests, and complaints.
- Demonstrate strong situational awareness and escalate concerns when necessary.
- Work in diverse climates and locations across the globe, managing variable shift schedules.
- Fly at high altitudes.
- Meet the physical demands of the role, including:
- Assisting ill or incapacitated passengers and fellow crew members.
- Evacuating the aircraft in smoky conditions during a cabin fire.
- Handling and operating oxygen bottles and fire extinguishers.
- Removing and lifting emergency cabin windows (weighing up to 60 pounds).
- Descending emergency slides from a height of approximately 24.5 feet.
Minimum Requirements:
- Must be at least 21 years old at the time of application.
- High school diploma or GED equivalent.
- Professional appearance, adhering to the dress code for Flight Attendants, which includes no visible body art (including tattoos), facial, multiple or upper ear piercings, gauge piercings, or extreme hair color or style.
- Proven customer service skills and the ability to effectively handle and resolve difficult customer situations.
- Proficient English reading, writing, and speaking skills.
- Advanced/business level Japanese language proficiency, including the ability to read Romaji or Kanji.
- Successful completion of an FAA-approved, unpaid eight-week intensive training program provided by Hawaiian Airlines.
- Ability to relocate within the state of Hawaii or the continental U.S.
- Availability to work alternative schedules, including evenings, weekends, and holidays.
- Ability to reach a height of 82 inches.
- Ability to sit comfortably in a cabin crew jump seat with seatbelt and shoulder harness fastened.
- Willingness to undergo pre-employment requirements including drug testing, tuberculosis (TB) screening, and a background check.
- Must be legally authorized to work in the United States.
- Must possess a valid passport and be able to obtain necessary visas for travel to countries served by Hawaiian Airlines.
- Must have the legal right to travel from all countries served by Hawaiian Airlines.
- Travel documents must remain valid throughout all phases of training and employment.
- Flight Attendants work in an environment subject to varying climatic conditions, variable gravitational loads, and varying levels of cabin pressurization. The role requires standing for up to 17 hours, with frequent stooping, twisting, pulling, and pushing of cabin equipment.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Two years of direct customer experience in the hospitality or airline industry, OR four years of customer contact and customer service issue resolution with the general public in industries such as retail, education, healthcare, and/or professional services.
- College education or degree.
