Position Summary
As a Flight Attendant at Hawaiian Airlines, your primary responsibility is to ensure the safety and well-being of guests onboard Company aircraft. This encompasses maintaining physical and psychological preparedness to execute safety procedures and provide assistance in emergency situations. The fast-paced environment requires the ability to handle emergencies effectively, interact professionally with diverse personalities, and maintain a consistently attentive and pleasant demeanor.
Secondary responsibilities involve delivering a consistent and exceptional customer service experience throughout the flight. This includes providing prescribed food and beverage service while embodying the spirit of aloha.
Key Responsibilities
- Attend preflight briefings covering weather, altitudes, routes, emergency procedures, crew coordination, flight duration, food and beverage offerings, and guest count.
- Greet guests warmly and direct them to their assigned seats, providing flight-related information as needed.
- Assist guests with stowing carry-on luggage in overhead compartments or under cabin seats.
- Demonstrate the proper use of safety equipment (e.g., seat belts, oxygen masks, life jackets) and emergency procedures before takeoff.
- Conduct regular aisle checks to ensure guest adherence to safety regulations, enforce safety guidelines, advise guests of any infractions, and effectively resolve challenging situations.
- Guide and assist guests in executing emergency procedures, such as evacuation following an emergency landing.
- Provide food and beverage service according to established procedures.
- Collect and reconcile payments for onboard products, including alcoholic beverages, meals, and duty-free items.
- Administer first aid, if necessary.
- Prepare written and verbal reports regarding emergency/safety incidents during flight.
- Prepare guests and aircraft for landing according to procedures.
- Successfully complete annual FAA-approved re-certification training provided by Hawaiian Airlines.
- Obtain and maintain an AOA Badge.
- Possess the ability to learn and maintain current knowledge and proficiency in emergency procedures according to Hawaiian and FAA regulations.
- Demonstrate flexibility and adaptability to work alternative schedules, including evenings, weekends, and holidays.
- Engage effectively and professionally with colleagues and guests.
- Collaborate effectively with colleagues to deliver a consistently aloha-infused experience, responding promptly and pleasantly to guest inquiries, requests, and concerns throughout the flight.
- Possess heightened awareness and the ability to recognize potential problems, escalating concerns as needed.
- Be comfortable working in diverse climates and locations around the world and working variable shifts.
- Be able to fly at high altitude.
- Meet the physical demands of the job, including:
- Assisting ill or incapacitated passengers and crew members.
- Evacuating the aircraft in heavy, dense smoke during a cabin fire.
- Handling and operating oxygen bottles and fire extinguishers.
- Removing and lifting emergency cabin windows (up to 60 pounds).
- Jumping down the emergency slide from a height of approximately 24.5 feet.
All outlined job duties, including emergency procedures, are essential functions of the Flight Attendant position.
Minimum Requirements
- Must be 21 years old at the time of application.
- High school diploma or GED equivalent.
- Maintain a professional appearance. Visible body art (including tattoos), facial, multiple or upper ear piercings, gauge piercings, and extreme hair color or style are not permitted while in the Flight Attendant Uniform or in public areas.
- Demonstrate strong customer service skills and the ability to effectively resolve challenging customer situations.
- Be proficient in reading, writing, and speaking English.
- Successfully complete an FAA-approved, unpaid eight-week intensive training program provided by Hawaiian Airlines.
- Be willing to relocate within the state of Hawaii or the continental U.S.
- Be available to work alternative schedules, including evenings, weekends, and holidays.
- Be able to reach 82 inches vertically.
- Be able to sit comfortably in a cabin crew jump seat with seatbelt and shoulder harness fastened.
- Successfully complete pre-employment requirements: Drug Test, tuberculosis (TB) and background check.
- Be legally authorized to work in the United States.
- Possess a valid passport and be able to secure applicable visas for travel to countries served by Hawaiian Airlines.
- Have the legal right to travel from all countries served by Hawaiian Airlines.
- Ensure all travel documents remain valid throughout all phases of training and employment.
- Flight Attendants work in an environment subject to varying climatic conditions, variable positive and negative gravitational loads induced by turbulence, and varying levels of cabin pressurization. Additionally, flight attendants are required to stand for up to four to seventeen hours, during which time stooping, twisting, and pulling and pushing cabin equipment may be necessary.
- Current Employees must be in good standing with the company.
Drug Testing
Hawaiian Airlines is regulated by the Department of Transportation (DOT - regulation, 49 CFR part 40). All applicants are advised that post-offer and/or pre-employment drug testing will be conducted to determine the presence of Marijuana, Cocaine, Opioids, PCP (Phencyclidine), and Amphetamine prior to any offer of employment or transfer into a safety-sensitive position. Failure to submit to testing or positive indications of drug use will render the applicant ineligible for employment with Hawaiian Airlines, and any employment offer will be withdrawn.
Verification of Citizenship and Birthplace
In addition to routine employment eligibility verification, U.S.-based airlines must gather information to validate country of citizenship and country of birth. Upon hire, you must provide documentation proving your current country citizenship and birthplace.
Employment Authorization
Applicants must be legally authorized to work in the United States, for any employer, without sponsorship. Hawaiian Airlines will not sponsor applicants for nonimmigrant or immigrant employment visas or status for this position.
Preferred Qualifications
- Two years of direct customer experience in the hospitality or airline industry, OR four years of customer contact and customer service issue resolution with the general public in industries such as retail, education, health care, and/or professional services.
- College education or degree.
