Purpose of the Position
The Flight Instructor plays a critical role in delivering exceptional ground and simulator flight instruction. This position requires adherence to stringent aviation regulations and FlightSafety’s established training principles, ensuring the highest standards of aviation education.
Key Responsibilities
- Conduct comprehensive pilot ground and simulator training for clients enrolled in core, specialty, or enrichment courses.
- Develop and meticulously prepare training materials essential for effective training delivery, ensuring alignment with client needs and applicable curriculum standards.
- Rigorously evaluate and measure trainee progress, providing informed recommendations for qualification or suggesting additional training as necessary.
- Accurately complete and maintain detailed training records for each client, actively contributing to their success in achieving stated objectives.
- Proactively identify potential client training issues and seek appropriate assistance before their execution.
- Maintain all required Instructor qualifications in full compliance with relevant regulatory requirements.
Minimum Qualifications
- Ability and willingness to participate in FlightSafety’s DOT Drug and Alcohol testing program.
- Possession of an unrestricted Airline Transport Pilot (ATP) certificate, or an equivalent Airline Transport Pilot License issued by an ICAO member state.
- If an ATP certificate is not held, candidates must meet the requirements of 14 CFR part 61.153 and 14 CFR part 61.64, specifically without a Supervised Operating Experience (SOE) limitation.
- A minimum of one unrestricted Pilot in Command (PIC) type rating.
- Preferred: Experience derived from FAR Part 135, FAR Part 121, or military training operations.
- Preferred: A minimum of 2,500 hours of total flight time.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
- Comprehensive knowledge of aviation safety standards and best practices.
- Thorough understanding of common aviation regulations.
- Demonstrated ability to effectively manage classes and teach complex aviation concepts.
- Proficiency in first-level facilitation techniques.
- Exceptional first-level customer service skills.
- A strong aptitude for coachability and a willingness to receive constructive feedback to support continuous professional development.
Physical Demands and Work Environment
While performing the duties of this role, the employee is regularly required to engage in activities such as using hands to finger, handle, or feel objects, tools, or controls; reaching with hands and arms; and communicating verbally or through hearing. The employee may also be required to stand, walk, sit, climb or balance, stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl, and occasionally taste or smell.
Candidates must possess the physical range of body motion necessary to perform the following:
- Reach, exert pressure, and manipulate rudder controls and/or anti-torque pedals with both feet.
- Reach and manipulate numerous controls within the simulator device from the Instructor’s chair.
- Enter and exit the simulator device safely via the provided ramp.
- Move efficiently between the instructor station, screen, and podium while instructing in a classroom setting.
- Safely exit from a malfunctioned simulator while the device is in a severely pitched attitude.
- Specific vision abilities required for this role include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.
- The employee must regularly lift and/or move up to 10 pounds, and frequently lift and/or move up to 25 pounds.
- The work environment frequently involves proximity to moving mechanical parts.
- Occasional exposure may include working in high, precarious places and in outside weather conditions, as well as exposure to wet and/or humid conditions, fumes or airborne particles, toxic or caustic chemicals, extreme cold, extreme heat, risk of electrical shock, risk of radiation, and vibration.
