Flight Instructor
Purpose of Position
The Flight Instructor is responsible for delivering exceptional ground and simulator flight instruction. This instruction is provided in strict accordance with applicable aviation regulations and FlightSafety's established training principles, ensuring the highest standards of safety and proficiency.
Tasks and Responsibilities
- Conducts pilot ground and simulator training for clients participating in core, specialty, or enrichment training courses.
- Develops and prepares comprehensive training materials that effectively support training delivery, meeting client needs in accordance with the applicable curriculum.
- Evaluates and measures trainee progress throughout the training program. Recommends trainees for qualification upon successful completion or identifies the need for additional training.
- Completes accurate and detailed training records specific to each client, which is essential for aiding their success in achieving requested training objectives.
- Identifies potential client training issues proactively and seeks necessary assistance or guidance prior to the execution of training.
- Maintains all required Instructor qualifications in accordance with relevant regulatory requirements and company standards.
Minimum Experience
Candidates are required to meet the following minimum experience and certification standards:
- Must be able and willing to participate in FlightSafety’s DOT Drug and Alcohol testing program.
- Possession of an unrestricted Airline Transport Pilot (ATP) certificate or an Airline Transport Pilot License issued by an ICAO member state.
- Alternatively, if holding no ATP, candidates must meet the requirements stipulated in:
- 14 CFR part 61.153
- 14 CFR part 61.64, specifically without a Supervised Operating Experience (SOE) limitation.
- Holds a minimum of one unrestricted Pilot-in-Command (PIC) type rating.
- Preferred experience includes prior training roles in FAR Part 135, FAR Part 121, or military aviation operations.
- A total flight time of 2,500 hours is preferred.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
The successful candidate will possess:
- Comprehensive knowledge of aviation safety standards and best practices.
- Strong understanding of common aviation regulations.
- Proven ability to manage classroom environments effectively and deliver engaging instruction.
- Demonstrated first-level facilitation skills.
- Proficiency in providing first-level customer service.
- A receptive attitude, capable of being coached and receiving constructive feedback to support professional development.
Physical Demands and Work Environment
The duties of this position frequently require the employee to use hands for tasks such as fingering, handling, or feeling objects, tools, or controls; reaching with hands and arms; and communicating through talking or hearing. The role may necessitate standing, walking, sitting, climbing or balancing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, or crawling, and occasionally tasting or smelling.
Specific physical demands require the ability to perform the following actions with a sufficient range of body motion:
- Reach, exert pressure on, and manipulate rudder and/or anti-torque controls with both feet.
- Reach and manipulate numerous controls within the simulator device from the Instructor’s chair.
- Safely enter and exit the simulator device utilizing the provided ramp.
- Move effectively between the Instructor station, screen, and podium during classroom instruction.
- Safely exit a malfunctioned simulator device, even if it is in a severely pitched attitude.
Required vision abilities encompass close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.
The employee is regularly required to lift and/or move items weighing up to 10 pounds and frequently lift and/or move items up to 25 pounds.
The work environment frequently involves working near moving mechanical parts. Employees may occasionally work in high or precarious places and potentially outside weather conditions. Exposure may include wet and/or humid conditions, fumes or airborne particles, toxic or caustic chemicals, extreme cold or heat, risk of electrical shock, risk of radiation, and vibration.
