Position Summary
The Flight Instructor plays a pivotal role in delivering exceptional ground and simulator flight instruction. This position ensures that all training adheres strictly to aviation regulations and FlightSafety's rigorous training principles, fostering the development of highly skilled aviation professionals.
Key Responsibilities
- Conducts comprehensive pilot ground and simulator training for clients enrolled in core, specialty, and enrichment aviation courses.
- Develops and prepares high-quality training materials that effectively support training delivery, ensuring alignment with client needs and applicable curriculum standards.
- Evaluates and accurately measures trainee progress, providing informed recommendations for qualification or additional instructional support.
- Maintains precise and thorough training records for each client, contributing directly to their success in achieving stated training objectives.
- Proactively identifies potential client training challenges and seeks appropriate assistance before instructional execution.
- Ensures continuous adherence to and maintenance of all required Instructor qualifications in accordance with prevailing regulatory requirements.
Minimum Qualifications
Required:
- Participation in FlightSafety’s DOT Drug and Alcohol testing program is mandatory.
- Possession of an unrestricted Airline Transport Pilot (ATP) certificate, or an equivalent Airline Transport Pilot License issued by an ICAO member state.
- Applicants without an ATP certificate must meet the requirements of 14 CFR part 61.153 and 14 CFR part 61.64, specifically without a Supervised Operating Experience (SOE) limitation.
- A minimum of one unrestricted Pilot-in-Command (PIC) type rating.
Preferred:
- Prior training experience under FAR Part 135, FAR Part 121, or military aviation training programs.
- A total flight time exceeding 2,500 hours.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
- Demonstrated comprehensive knowledge of aviation safety standards and best practices.
- Solid understanding of common aviation regulations.
- Proven ability to effectively manage classroom environments and deliver instruction.
- Proficiency in first-level facilitation techniques.
- Exceptional first-level customer service skills.
- Openness to coaching and constructive feedback to support continuous professional development.
Physical Demands and Work Environment
This dynamic role requires the Flight Instructor to regularly engage in activities such as using hands to manipulate controls, reaching with arms, and verbal communication. The position may also necessitate standing, walking, sitting, climbing, balancing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, crawling, and potentially sensing (taste or smell).
Specific physical requirements include:
- Ability to reach, exert pressure, and manipulate rudder controls and/or anti-torque pedals with both feet.
- Capability to reach and operate numerous controls within a simulator device from the instructor's chair.
- Competence to safely enter and exit the simulator device via the provided ramp.
- Agility to move efficiently between the instructor station, projection screen, and podium while instructing in a classroom setting.
- Capacity to safely exit a malfunctioned simulator, even when the device is in a severely pitched attitude.
- Specific vision abilities include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.
- The instructor must regularly lift and/or move up to 10 pounds and frequently lift and/or move up to 25 pounds.
- The work environment frequently involves proximity to moving mechanical parts. Occasionally, the role may involve working in elevated or precarious locations, outdoor weather conditions, and exposure to wet/humid conditions, fumes, airborne particles, toxic/caustic chemicals, extreme temperatures (cold/heat), risk of electrical shock, risk of radiation, and vibration.
