The Role: Flight Instructor
The Flight Instructor is charged with delivering exceptional, high-quality ground and simulator flight instruction. This critical position ensures that all training is conducted strictly in accordance with applicable aviation regulations and the rigorous principles established by FlightSafety Training.
Key Tasks and Responsibilities
- Conduct comprehensive pilot ground and simulator training sessions for clients enrolled in core, specialty, or enrichment courses.
- Develop, prepare, and maintain instructional materials that effectively support training delivery, ensuring client needs are met in strict alignment with the approved curriculum.
- Rigorously evaluate and accurately measure trainee progress, providing professional recommendations for qualification, or determining the necessity for additional instructional support.
- Complete accurate and detailed training records specific to each client, thereby supporting their success in achieving required training objectives.
- Proactively identify potential client training issues and seek timely assistance and guidance from management prior to the execution of training phases.
- Maintain all personal Instructor qualifications and currency in full compliance with relevant regulatory requirements.
Minimum Qualifications and Experience
Candidates must satisfy the following essential requirements:
- Participation in FlightSafety’s DOT Drug and Alcohol testing program is mandatory.
- Possession of an unrestricted Airline Transport Pilot (ATP) certificate or an equivalent Airline Transport Pilot License issued by an ICAO member state.
- If an unrestricted ATP is not held, the candidate must meet the requirements specified under 14 CFR part 61.153 and 14 CFR part 61.64 without a Supervised Operating Experience (SOE) limitation.
- A minimum of one unrestricted Pilot-in-Command (PIC) type rating is required.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Demonstrated experience in FAR Part 135, FAR Part 121, or military aviation training environments.
- A total flight time of 2,500 hours or greater.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities (KSAs)
- Profound knowledge of current aviation safety standards and best practices.
- Comprehensive understanding of common aviation regulations.
- Proven ability to manage instructional environments and teach effectively across diverse groups.
- Competency in first-level facilitation skills tailored for professional adult learning environments.
- Exceptional first-level customer service skills and professionalism.
- Demonstrated ability to receive and incorporate constructive feedback to support continuous professional development and instructional excellence.
Physical Demands and Work Environment
The Instructor will regularly be required to use hands for control manipulation; reach with hands and arms; and communicate through speech and hearing. Occasional requirements may include standing, walking, sitting, climbing, balancing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, or crawling.
The role requires specific physical range of motion to perform essential tasks, including:
- Reaching, exerting pressure, and manipulating rudder controls and/or anti-torque pedals with both feet.
- Reaching and manipulating numerous controls within the simulator device from the Instructor’s operating station.
- Entering and exiting the full-flight simulator device via the provided ramp.
- Moving actively between the Instructor station, projection screen, and podium while conducting classroom instruction.
- Exiting a malfunctioned simulator device while the unit is in a severely pitched attitude.
- Specific visual abilities required include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.
- The position regularly requires lifting and/or moving up to 10 pounds, and frequently lifting and/or moving up to 25 pounds.
The work environment frequently includes proximity to moving mechanical parts. The Instructor may occasionally work in high, precarious places and is subject to potential exposure to external weather conditions, wet/humid conditions, fumes, airborne particles, toxic chemicals, extreme temperatures, risk of electrical shock, risk of radiation, and vibration.
