Purpose of Position

The Flight Instructor is responsible for delivering exceptional ground and simulator flight instruction. This role ensures training is conducted in strict accordance with applicable aviation regulations and FlightSafety Training principles, providing clients with high-quality and effective learning experiences.

Tasks and Responsibilities

  • Conducts pilot ground and simulator training for clients undertaking core, specialty, or enrichment training courses.
  • Develops and prepares training materials that effectively support training delivery, meeting client needs in alignment with the applicable curriculum.
  • Evaluates and measures trainee progress, providing recommendations for qualification or further training as appropriate.
  • Maintains accurate and complete training records specific to each client, supporting their success in achieving requested objectives.
  • Identifies potential client training issues proactively and seeks necessary assistance prior to training execution.
  • Maintains personal instructor qualifications in accordance with all relevant regulatory requirements.

Minimum Experience

  • Ability and willingness to participate in FlightSafety’s DOT Drug and Alcohol testing program are required.
  • Possession of an unrestricted Airline Transport Pilot (ATP) certificate or an ICAO member state Airline Transport Pilot License.
  • Candidates without an ATP must meet the requirements of:
  • 14 CFR part 61.153
  • 14 CFR part 61.64 without a Supervised Operating Experience (SOE) limitation.
  • A minimum of one unrestricted PIC type rating is necessary.
  • FAR Part 135, FAR Part 121, or military training experience is preferred.
  • A minimum of 2,500 hours of total flight time is preferred.

Knowledge, Skills, Abilities

  • Demonstrated knowledge of aviation safety standards and practices.
  • Understanding of common aviation regulations.
  • Ability to effectively manage classes and teach instructional content.
  • Possesses first-level facilitation skills to guide learning processes.
  • Exhibits first-level customer service skills to support client interactions.
  • Ability to be coachable and receptive to feedback to facilitate professional development.

Physical Demands and Work Environment

The duties of this position require the employee to frequently use hands for tasks involving controls; reach with hands and arms; and communicate verbally or through hearing. The role may necessitate standing, walking, sitting, climbing, balancing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, crawling, and tasting or smelling. Specific physical demands include:

  • Reaching, exerting pressure, and manipulating rudder or anti-torque controls with both feet.
  • Reaching and manipulating numerous controls within a simulator device from the instructor chair.
  • Entering and exiting simulator devices using provided ramps.
  • Moving between the instructor station, screen, and podium while conducting classroom instruction.
  • Exiting a malfunctioned simulator when the device is in a severely pitched attitude.
  • Specific vision abilities required include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.
  • The employee must regularly lift and/or move up to 10 pounds and frequently lift and/or move up to 25 pounds.
  • Work is frequently performed near moving mechanical parts.
  • The employee may encounter high, precarious places, outside weather conditions, and is occasionally exposed to wet/humid conditions, fumes, airborne particles, toxic/caustic chemicals, extreme cold/heat, risk of electrical shock, risk of radiation, and vibration.
