Purpose of Position
The Flight Instructor is responsible for delivering exceptional ground and simulator flight instruction. This instruction is conducted in strict accordance with relevant aviation regulations and adhering to FlightSafety's established training principles.
Tasks and Responsibilities
- Conducting pilot ground and simulator training for clients participating in core, specialty, or enrichment training courses.
- Developing and preparing necessary training materials that support effective training delivery, meeting client needs and aligning with the applicable curriculum.
- Evaluating and accurately measuring trainee progress to recommend individuals for qualification or suggest the need for additional training.
- Completing precise training records for each client, which are vital for supporting their success in achieving requested training objectives.
- Identifying potential client training issues and proactively seeking assistance or guidance before proceeding.
- Maintaining personal Instructor qualifications in compliance with all current regulatory requirements.
Minimum Experience and Qualifications
- Must be able and willing to participate in FlightSafety’s DOT Drug and Alcohol testing program.
- An unrestricted Airline Transport Pilot (ATP) certificate is required, or an equivalent Airline Transport Pilot License issued by an ICAO member state.
- If an ATP is not held, the candidate must meet the requirements of:
- 14 CFR part 61.153
- 14 CFR part 61.64 without a Supervised Operating Experience (SOE) limitation.
- A minimum of one unrestricted Pilot-In-Command (PIC) type rating is mandatory.
- Preferred qualifications include experience in FAR Part 135, FAR Part 121, or military training environments.
- A total flight time of 2,500 hours is preferred.

- Comprehensive knowledge of aviation safety standards and practices.
- Solid understanding of common aviation regulations.
- Proven ability to effectively manage classroom dynamics and deliver instruction.
- First-level facilitation skills.
- First-level customer service skills.
- The capacity to be coachable, receptive to feedback, and committed to continuous professional development.
Physical Demands and Work Environment
The duties of this position involve certain physical demands and environmental exposures. The employee is regularly required to use hands for controls and tasks, reach, and communicate verbally. Actions such as standing, walking, sitting, climbing, balancing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, crawling, tasting, and smelling may be required.
Specific physical motions include:
- Reaching, exerting pressure, and manipulating rudder or anti-torque controls with both feet.
- Reaching and manipulating numerous controls within a simulator device from the instructor's chair.
- Entering and exiting the simulator device via the provided ramp.
- Moving between the instructor station, screen, and podium while instructing in a classroom setting.
- Exiting a malfunctioning simulator even when the device is in a severely pitched attitude.
The role requires specific vision abilities, including close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus. The employee must regularly lift and/or move items weighing up to 10 pounds and frequently lift and/or move items up to 25 pounds.
The work environment frequently involves working near moving mechanical parts. Occasional exposure may include high, precarious places, outside weather conditions, wet/humid conditions, fumes, airborne particles, toxic/caustic chemicals, extreme cold, extreme heat, risk of electrical shock, risk of radiation, and vibration.
