Compensation and Benefits

FlightSafety International offers a competitive compensation package, with salary commensurate with a candidate's qualifications, education, skills, experience, and market demands. The salary range for this role is between $0 and $1,199,998.00 annually.

Purpose of the Position

The KC-46 Pilot Instructor is primarily responsible for delivering comprehensive simulator-based training within the Weapon System Trainer (WST), including meticulous pre-briefings and debriefings, for U.S. Air Force and Allied Nation KC-46 Pilots participating in Quarterly Refresher training. This pivotal role involves instructing and precisely measuring the training progress of both Pilot and Maintenance students within established aircrew training curricula.

Key Responsibilities

  • Deliver Quarterly Refresher training utilizing various instructional tools, including classrooms, Computer-based Training (CBT), Weapon System Trainer (WST), and KC-46 aircraft.
  • Provide essential ground-based training for Aircrew Members on tanker and receiver operating procedures, encompassing diagnosis and remediation of student challenges.
  • Conduct Initial and Recurring training for Maintenance Personnel enrolled in Engine Run courses.
  • Lead effective briefings, debriefings, and counseling sessions with Aircrew Members and Maintenance Personnel to cultivate and sustain superior technical acumen and student proficiency.
  • Extract and analyze student data to prepare for comprehensive student review sessions.
  • Serve as the primary KC-46 Pilot Subject Matter Expert (SME) for students and other relevant personnel.
  • Uphold and consistently demonstrate exceptional standards of instruction, profound knowledge, advanced capabilities, and expert-level proficiency.
  • Develop and maintain an unparalleled understanding of KC-46 aircraft systems and operating procedures.
  • Exhibit consistent and exceptional knowledge and application of instructional principles and theories pertinent to aircrew training systems.
  • Contribute valuable inputs for courseware corrections, modifications, and updates to training policies and procedures.
  • Provide assistance in various project and development initiatives as assigned.
  • Efficiently operate the Student Management System.
  • Perform administrative duties related to training, including precise record keeping, diligent monitoring of student progress, and effective counseling.
  • Participate in WST certification testing as required.
  • Rigorously review assigned CBT and classroom lesson plans for content accuracy, ensuring the highest level of Quality Assurance (QA) through recommended and incorporated corrections, modifications, and updates.
  • Actively support courseware development and the ongoing maintenance of established training curricula.
  • Contribute to training device development efforts.
  • Participate in at least one annual aircraft familiarization flight as a non-flying, additional crew member.
  • Undertake travel as necessary to fulfill job requirements.
  • Execute other duties as assigned to support operational needs.

Qualifications

Minimum Education

  • A Bachelor’s Degree or equivalent combination of education, experience, and training is required.

Minimum Experience

  • Proven experience as a qualified Tanker Air-to-Air Refueling (AAR) Pilot Flight Instructor or as a Tanker AAR Aircrew Training System (ATS) Pilot Instructor. This experience must have been gained within the last five years prior to assignment to the KC-46 ATS.
  • A minimum of 200 logged flying hours in U.S. Air Force or Allied Nation aircraft, or equivalent flight simulator, with at least 50% of these hours accrued in actual aircraft.
  • Prior experience as a Receiver AAR Instructor is highly desirable.
  • A B-767 type rating is preferred.
  • Equipment Proficiency: Proficiency in utilizing standard office software applications (e.g., word processing, spreadsheets), printers, and classroom presentation equipment. Experience with Weapon System Trainers (WST), KC-46 aircraft operations, Computer-based Training (CBT), and Student Management Systems is essential.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Ability to ethically and morally influence others to achieve program goals successfully.
  • Fluent proficiency in reading, writing, speaking, and comprehending English.
  • Exceptional written and verbal communication skills.
  • Capacity to effectively interface with students, providing immediate remediation or determining alternative courses of action as necessary.
  • Foundational knowledge of personal computers and standard software applications, including word processing, spreadsheets, and databases.
  • Successful completion of an annual internal standardization evaluation.
  • Ability to currently possess or obtain a SECRET clearance.

Physical Demands and Work Environment

The physical demands and work environment characteristics described are representative of those an employee encounters while performing the essential functions of this role. This position regularly requires sitting, repetitive use of hands and fingers, handling, reaching with hands and arms, and effective communication (talking or hearing). The ability to occasionally lift and/or move up to 20 pounds is required. Specific vision abilities include close and distance vision, along with the capacity to adjust focus. The typical noise level in the work environment is moderate.
