Position Summary

The Flight Instructor plays a critical role in delivering exceptional ground and simulator flight instruction. This position is responsible for ensuring all training adheres strictly to established aviation regulations and FlightSafety International’s rigorous training principles, fostering the highest standards of pilot proficiency and safety.

Key Responsibilities

The Flight Instructor performs a diverse range of duties, including but not limited to:

  • Conducting comprehensive ground and advanced simulator flight training for clients enrolled in core, specialty, or enrichment courses.
  • Developing and preparing high-quality training materials designed to meet specific client needs and align with applicable curriculum requirements.
  • Evaluating and accurately measuring trainee progress, providing informed recommendations for qualification or additional instructional support.
  • Maintaining precise and detailed training records for each client, facilitating their successful achievement of specified training objectives.
  • Proactively identifying potential client training issues and seeking appropriate assistance or guidance before executing training.
  • Ensuring continuous compliance with all regulatory requirements to maintain instructor qualifications.

Qualifications

Required Qualifications:

  • Willingness and ability to participate in FlightSafety’s Department of Transportation (DOT) Drug and Alcohol testing program.
  • Possession of an unrestricted Airline Transport Pilot (ATP) certificate, or an equivalent Airline Transport Pilot License issued by an ICAO member state.
  • Candidates without an ATP certificate must meet the requirements of 14 CFR part 61.153 and 14 CFR part 61.64, without a Supervised Operating Experience (SOE) limitation.
  • A minimum of one unrestricted Pilot-in-Command (PIC) type rating.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Prior instructional experience in FAR Part 135, FAR Part 121, or military training environments.
  • A minimum of 2,500 hours of total flight time.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Demonstrated knowledge of aviation safety standards and best practices.
  • Proficiency in common aviation regulations.
  • Exceptional ability to manage classroom dynamics and deliver effective instruction.
  • Developed first-level facilitation skills.
  • Strong first-level customer service skills, with a commitment to client satisfaction.
  • Receptiveness to coaching and feedback, demonstrating a commitment to continuous professional development.

Physical Demands and Work Environment

This position requires the ability to perform various physical activities within a dynamic training environment.

General Physical Activities: Regularly required to use hands for controls, reach with arms, and engage in verbal communication. May involve standing, walking, sitting, climbing, balancing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, crawling, and sensory perception (taste or smell).

Specific Operational Requirements: Must possess the physical range of body motion to:

  • Reach, exert pressure, and manipulate rudder controls and/or anti-torque pedals with both feet.
  • Reach and manipulate numerous controls within the simulator device from the instructor’s chair.
  • Safely enter and exit the simulator device via the provided ramp.
  • Move effectively between the instructor station, screen, and podium while instructing in a classroom setting.
  • Exit from a malfunctioned simulator while the device is in a severely pitched attitude.

Vision Requirements: Specific vision abilities required include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.

Lifting Requirements: Regularly lift and/or move up to 10 pounds, and frequently lift and/or move up to 25 pounds.

Work Environment Exposure: The employee frequently works near moving mechanical parts. Occasionally exposed to high/precarious places, outside weather conditions, wet/humid conditions, fumes, airborne particles, toxic or caustic chemicals, extreme cold, extreme heat, risk of electrical shock, risk of radiation, and vibration.
