Purpose of Position
The Flight Instructor is responsible for delivering exceptional ground and simulator flight instruction, strictly adhering to all relevant aviation regulations and established FlightSafety Training principles.
Key Responsibilities
- Conduct comprehensive ground and simulator training for clients enrolled in core, specialty, or enrichment training courses.
- Develop and prepare high-quality training materials that effectively support instruction delivery and meet client needs in accordance with the applicable curriculum.
- Evaluate and monitor trainee progress, providing recommendations for qualification or identifying the need for additional training.
- Maintain accurate and detailed training records for each client to facilitate their success in achieving stated objectives.
- Proactively identify client training challenges and seek appropriate assistance before execution.
- Ensure the maintenance of instructor qualifications in compliance with all regulatory requirements.
Minimum Qualifications
- Must be able to and willing to participate in FlightSafety’s DOT Drug and Alcohol testing program.
- Possess an unrestricted Airline Transport Pilot (ATP) certificate or an Airline Transport Pilot License from an ICAO member state.
- If an ATP certificate is not held, the candidate must meet the requirements of:
- 14 CFR part 61.153
- 14 CFR part 61.64, without a Supervised Operating Experience (SOE) limitation.
- Hold a minimum of one unrestricted Pilot-In-Command (PIC) type rating.
- Preferred Qualifications: Experience with FAR Part 135, FAR Part 121 operations, or military training environments.
- Preferred Qualifications: A minimum of 2,500 hours of total flight time.
Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
- In-depth knowledge of aviation safety standards and best practices.
- Solid understanding of common aviation regulations.
- Demonstrated ability to effectively manage classroom sessions and deliver engaging instruction.
- Proficiency in first-level facilitation techniques.
- Strong first-level customer service skills.
- A high degree of coachability and the ability to receive and integrate feedback for professional development.
Physical Demands and Work Environment
Employees regularly utilize hands for intricate tasks, reaching, and manipulation of controls. The role requires standing, walking, and sitting, with occasional climbing, balancing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, crawling, and tasting/smelling.
The position necessitates a full range of physical motion, including:
- The ability to exert pressure and manipulate rudder controls and/or anti-torque pedals with both feet.
- The capacity to reach and operate numerous controls from the instructor's station within the simulator.
- The ability to safely enter and exit the simulator via the provided ramp.
- Freedom to move between the instructor station, screen, and podium during classroom instruction.
- The capability to egress from a malfunctioning simulator, even when the device is in a severely pitched attitude.
Specific vision abilities required include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.
Employees must be able to regularly lift and/or move up to 10 pounds, and frequently lift and/or move up to 25 pounds.
The work environment frequently involves proximity to moving mechanical parts. Employees may occasionally work in high or precarious places, and may be exposed to various environmental conditions including outdoor weather, wet or humid conditions, fumes or airborne particles, toxic or caustic chemicals, extreme temperatures (cold and heat), electrical shock hazards, radiation, and vibration.
