Position Overview
A Flight Instructor is responsible for delivering exceptional ground and simulator flight instruction. This role requires adherence to all applicable aviation regulations and strict compliance with FlightSafety Training principles to ensure the highest standards of safety and educational quality.
Key Responsibilities
- Conduct pilot ground and simulator training sessions for clients participating in core, specialty, or enrichment training courses.
- Develop and prepare training materials specifically tailored to support effective training delivery, meeting client needs in accordance with the applicable curriculum.
- Evaluate and accurately measure trainee progress throughout the training program. Provides recommendations regarding qualification or the necessity for additional training.
- Complete precise and thorough training records for each client, facilitating their successful achievement of requested objectives.
- Identify potential client training issues proactively and seek appropriate assistance or guidance before proceeding with instruction.
- Maintain all required Instructor qualifications in strict accordance with regulatory mandates.
Minimum Requirements
- Must be willing and able to participate fully in FlightSafety’s DOT Drug and Alcohol testing program.
- Possession of an unrestricted Airline Transport Pilot (ATP) certificate, or an equivalent ICAO member state Airline Transport Pilot License.
- Candidates without an ATP must meet the specific requirements outlined in 14 CFR part 61.153 and 14 CFR part 61.64, ensuring compliance without a Supervised Operating Experience (SOE) limitation.
- Holds a minimum of one unrestricted Pilot-in-Command (PIC) type rating.
- Preferred: Experience gained through FAR Part 135, FAR Part 121, or military training environments is highly desirable.
- Preferred: A minimum of 2,500 hours of total flight time is preferred.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
- Demonstrated knowledge of aviation safety standards and best practices.
- Solid understanding of common aviation regulations.
- Proven ability to effectively manage classroom environments and deliver instruction.
- Possesses first-level facilitation skills.
- Exhibits first-level customer service skills.
- Demonstrates an ability to be coachable and readily receive feedback to support continuous professional development.
Physical Demands and Work Environment
The performance of this role requires specific physical capabilities. The employee is regularly required to use hands to manipulate objects, tools, or controls; reach with hands and arms; and communicate verbally or listen. The position may involve standing, walking, sitting, climbing or balancing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, or crawling, and occasionally involves tasting or smelling.
Physical range of body motion is required to perform tasks including:
- Reaching, exerting pressure, and manipulating rudder controls and/or anti-torque pedals with both feet.
- Reaching and manipulating numerous controls within the Simulator device from the Instructor’s chair.
- Safely entering and exiting the Simulator device via the provided ramp.
- Moving between the Instructor station, screen, and podium while instructing in the classroom.
- Safely exiting a malfunctioned Simulator, even when the device is in a severely pitched attitude.
Specific vision abilities necessary for this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.
The employee must be able to regularly lift and/or move up to 10 pounds, and frequently lift and/or move up to 25 pounds.
The work environment frequently involves proximity to moving mechanical parts. The employee may work in high, precarious places and be exposed to outside weather conditions. Occasional exposure to wet and/or humid conditions, fumes or airborne particles, toxic or caustic chemicals, extreme cold, extreme heat, risk of electrical shock, risk of radiation, and vibration may occur.
