Position Purpose

The Flight Instructor is instrumental in delivering exceptional ground and simulator flight instruction. This role adheres strictly to aviation regulations and the established FlightSafety Training principles, ensuring a high standard of aviation education.

Key Responsibilities

  • Conduct comprehensive pilot ground and simulator training for clients enrolled in core, specialty, or enrichment training courses.
  • Develop and prepare high-quality training materials that effectively support instruction and meet diverse client needs, aligned with applicable curricula.
  • Evaluate and assess trainee progress, providing recommendations for qualification or identifying areas requiring additional training.
  • Maintain accurate and detailed training records for each client to facilitate their success in achieving stated objectives.
  • Proactively identify client training challenges and seek appropriate assistance before execution to ensure seamless delivery.
  • Uphold and maintain instructor qualifications in strict accordance with all relevant regulatory requirements.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Must be able and willing to participate in FlightSafety’s DOT Drug and Alcohol testing program.
  • Possession of an unrestricted Airline Transport Pilot (ATP) certificate, or an Airline Transport Pilot License from an ICAO member state.
  • If an ATP certificate is not held, applicants must meet the requirements of 14 CFR part 61.153 and 14 CFR part 61.64, without a Supervised Operating Experience (SOE) limitation.
  • A minimum of one unrestricted Pilot-in-Command (PIC) type rating.
  • Preferred: Experience in FAR Part 135, FAR Part 121 operations, or military training environments.
  • Preferred: A minimum of 2,500 hours of total flight time.

Required Skills and Abilities

  • Proficient knowledge of aviation safety standards and best practices.
  • Comprehensive understanding of common aviation regulations.
  • Demonstrated ability to effectively manage classes and deliver engaging instruction.
  • Proficiency in first-level facilitation techniques.
  • Excellent first-level customer service skills.
  • A coachable attitude with the ability to receive and integrate feedback for professional development.

Physical Demands and Work Environment

Employees regularly use hands to manipulate objects, tools, or controls; reach with hands and arms; and communicate verbally or auditorily. Standing, walking, sitting, climbing, balancing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, crawling, and tasting or smelling may also be required.

Physical range of motion is essential for the following duties:

  • Applying pressure and manipulating rudder controls and/or anti-torque with both feet.
  • Reaching and manipulating numerous controls within the simulator from the instructor's chair.
  • Entering and exiting the simulator via a provided ramp.
  • Moving between the instructor station, screen, and podium while teaching in a classroom setting.
  • Exiting a malfunctioning simulator when the device is in a severely pitched attitude.
  • Specific vision abilities required include close and distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.
  • Employees must be able to regularly lift and/or move up to 10 pounds, and frequently lift and/or move up to 25 pounds.
  • The work environment frequently involves proximity to moving mechanical parts.
  • Employees may work in high or precarious places, in various weather conditions, and may be occasionally exposed to wet or humid conditions, fumes or airborne particles, toxic or caustic chemicals, extreme cold or heat, electrical shock, radiation, and vibration.
