Position Summary

The Flight Instructor plays a crucial role in delivering exceptional ground and simulator flight instruction. This instruction is conducted meticulously in accordance with established aviation regulations and the core training principles of FlightSafety International.

Key Responsibilities

  • Conducting ground and simulator training for pilots undertaking core, specialty, or enrichment courses.
  • Developing and preparing comprehensive training materials designed to support effective training delivery, ensuring alignment with client needs and applicable curriculum standards.
  • Evaluating and accurately measuring trainee progress throughout their instruction, making recommendations regarding qualification or identifying the need for supplementary training.
  • Maintaining precise training records for each client to facilitate their success in achieving their specific objectives.
  • Proactively identifying potential client training issues and seeking appropriate assistance prior to instructional delivery.
  • Ensuring personal Instructor qualifications are current and maintained in full compliance with all relevant regulatory requirements.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Must be able and willing to participate in FlightSafety’s DOT Drug and Alcohol testing program.
  • Hold an unrestricted Airline Transport Pilot (ATP) certificate or an equivalent Airline Transport Pilot License issued by an ICAO member state.
  • If not possessing an ATP, candidates must satisfy the requirements stipulated in:
    • 14 CFR part 61.153
    • 14 CFR part 61.64, specifically without a Supervised Operating Experience (SOE) limitation.
  • Possess a minimum of one unrestricted Pilot-in-Command (PIC) type rating.
  • Preferred qualifications include experience gained under FAR Part 135, FAR Part 121, or within military training environments.
  • A total flight time exceeding 2,500 hours is preferred.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Thorough knowledge of aviation safety standards and practices.
  • Familiarity with common aviation regulations.
  • Proven ability to effectively manage classroom environments and deliver instruction skillfully.
  • Competence in first-level facilitation skills.
  • Strong first-level customer service capabilities.
  • A capacity to be receptive to feedback and coachable for professional development.

Physical Demands and Work Environment

The duties of this position involve specific physical demands and environmental exposures. While performing the job, the employee is regularly required to use hands for controls, reach with hands and arms, and communicate verbally. Standing, walking, sitting, climbing, balancing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, crawling, tasting, or smelling may also be required. The role necessitates sufficient physical range of motion to:

  • Reach, apply pressure, and manipulate rudder or anti-torque controls using both feet.
  • Reach and operate numerous controls within the simulator device from the Instructor’s chair.
  • Enter and exit the simulator device via the provided ramp.
  • Move between the Instructor station, screen, and podium during classroom instruction.
  • Exit a malfunctioning simulator device even when it is in a severely pitched attitude.

Specific vision abilities required include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus. The employee must regularly lift and/or move up to 10 pounds and frequently lift and/or move up to 25 pounds.

The work environment frequently involves proximity to moving mechanical parts. Occasional exposure may occur in high, precarious places, outside weather conditions, wet and/or humid conditions, fumes or airborne particles, toxic or caustic chemicals, extreme cold, extreme heat, and potential risks such as electrical shock, radiation, or vibration.
