Job Summary
The Flight Instructor plays a pivotal role in delivering exceptional ground and simulator flight instruction. This position ensures that all training adheres strictly to aviation regulations and FlightSafety Training principles, contributing directly to the success and professional development of aviation clients.
Key Responsibilities
- Conducts comprehensive pilot ground and simulator training for clients enrolled in core, specialty, or enrichment courses.
- Develops and prepares high-quality training materials that effectively support instruction and meet client needs, in accordance with applicable curricula.
- Evaluates and accurately measures trainee progress, providing informed recommendations for qualification or additional instructional support.
- Maintains precise and detailed training records for each client, facilitating their achievement of specified objectives.
- Identifies potential client training issues and proactively seeks assistance to resolve them prior to execution.
- Ensures all instructor qualifications are current and maintained in full compliance with regulatory requirements.
Minimum Qualifications
Candidates for the Flight Instructor position must meet the following essential requirements:
- Ability and willingness to participate in FlightSafety’s Department of Transportation (DOT) Drug and Alcohol testing program.
- Possession of an unrestricted Airline Transport Pilot (ATP) certificate or an equivalent ICAO member state Airline Transport Pilot License.
- Alternatively, if an ATP certificate is not held, candidates must satisfy the requirements of:
- 14 CFR part 61.153
- 14 CFR part 61.64 without a Supervised Operating Experience (SOE) limitation.
- A minimum of one unrestricted Pilot-in-Command (PIC) type rating.
Preferred Experience:
- Previous training experience under FAR Part 135, FAR Part 121, or military aviation.
- A minimum of 2,500 hours of total flight time.

Physical Demands and Work Environment
This role requires a range of physical abilities to effectively perform the duties of a Flight Instructor. The employee is regularly expected to use hands for fine manipulation, handle tools and controls, reach with hands and arms, and communicate verbally. The position may also necessitate standing, walking, sitting, climbing, balancing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, crawling, and sensory perception such as taste or smell. Essential physical motions include:
- Reaching, exerting pressure, and manipulating rudder controls or anti-torque pedals with both feet.
- Reaching and manipulating numerous controls within a simulator device from the instructor’s chair.
- Safely entering and exiting the simulator device via the provided ramp.
- Moving efficiently between the instructor station, screen, and podium while conducting classroom instruction.
- Exiting from a malfunctioned simulator device, even when it is in a severely pitched attitude.
- Specific vision abilities are crucial, including close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.
- The role involves regularly lifting and moving up to 10 pounds and frequently lifting and moving up to 25 pounds.
- The work environment frequently involves proximity to moving mechanical parts. Occasionally, the employee may work in elevated or precarious locations, in varying outside weather conditions, and may be exposed to wet or humid conditions, airborne particles, toxic chemicals, extreme temperatures (cold/heat), electrical shock, radiation risks, and vibration.
