C-17 Pilot Instructor

Purpose of the Position:
The C-17 Pilot Instructor will play a crucial role in the ground-based training of C-17 pilots, delivering instruction and meticulously evaluating the progress of crewmembers within the established Training System (TS) curriculum.
Key Responsibilities:
- Deliver comprehensive training utilizing a range of advanced devices, including the Weapon System Trainer (WST), the C-17 aircraft, Computer-Based Trainers (CBT), and other ground-based platforms, encompassing airdrop, aerial refueling, and transport operating procedures.
- Demonstrate exceptional proficiency in diagnosing and remediating student learning challenges.
- Maintain an exceptional level of subject matter expertise, instructional capability, and currency with the latest industry practices.
- Conduct thorough pre- and post-flight briefings and debriefings, providing constructive feedback and guidance to foster the development of highly proficient pilots and Maintenance Engine Run personnel.
- Execute administrative tasks related to training, encompassing interaction with the user organization, meticulous record-keeping, diligent monitoring of student progress, provision of constructive counseling, ongoing training development, and meticulous maintenance of training programs.
- Contribute valuable insights and recommendations for courseware refinements and modifications, ensuring continuous improvement and alignment with evolving industry standards.
- Participate in flight operations as required, both within the WST to maintain instructional expertise and as an observer on C-17 flights to maintain operational currency and directly evaluate student progress.
Additional Responsibilities:
- Serve as a trusted C-17 Pilot Subject Matter Expert (SME), providing guidance and support to students, colleagues, and during testing events.
- Assume the role of Flight Check Airman (FCA)(Lead) and Community College of the Air Force (CCAF) Evaluator, as assigned.
- Conduct Simulator Certification (SIMCERT)/Simulator Evaluation (SIMVAL) duties, ensuring the accuracy and effectiveness of simulation training environments.
- Contribute to project and development initiatives, leveraging expertise to enhance training programs and methodologies.
- Actively participate in Operations Group Standardization/Evaluation (Stan/Eval) Boards (SEB), Training Review Panels (TRP), and Formal Training Unit (FTU) instructor meetings, fostering collaboration and best practice sharing.
- Attend Headquarters (HQ) Air Mobility Command (AMC) curriculum reviews, HQ AMC Stan/Eval Conferences, and Flight Manual Review Conferences (FMRC) to stay abreast of the latest developments and standards.
- Perform Learning Center monitor, safety representative, physical/cyber security representative, and hazardous materials (HAZMAT) duties as assigned.
- Undertake travel as required to meet operational needs.
- Perform other related duties as assigned, demonstrating flexibility and adaptability in a dynamic environment.
Essential Skills & Qualifications:
- Fluency in written and spoken English.
- Exceptional communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to effectively convey information to diverse audiences.
- Strong presentation skills, enabling clear and engaging delivery of training material.
- Proven knowledge of instructional principles and theories, particularly as they relate to Training Systems (TS).
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite applications, including Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Access.
- Ability to successfully complete annual internal standardization evaluations.
- Active SECRET Security Clearance.
Education & Experience:
- Bachelor’s degree required.
- Minimum of eight (8) years of flying experience, including five (5) years as a C-17 pilot with demonstrable airdrop and aerial refueling experience. Candidates with less than five (5) years of C-17 experience may be considered with an approved AMC/A3TK waiver.
- A minimum of two (2) years or 200 hours of experience as a flight instructor in airdrop, aerial refueling, and tactics.
- Recent C-17 flight simulator pilot instructor experience and CATS MECOC certification are highly desirable.
Physical Demands and Work Environment:
- Ability to sit, stand, and walk for extended periods.
- Frequent use of hands for fine motor tasks and operating equipment.
- Ability to lift and/or move up to 25 pounds regularly and up to 35 pounds occasionally.
- Comfortable working in a dynamic environment with varying noise levels, ranging from quiet to extremely loud.
- Adaptable to working in inclement weather and temperature extremes, adhering to Air Force and company guidelines.
- Ability to safely ingress/egress from simulators and aircraft, including utilizing escape ladders.
