The Role: First Officer, A320

The First Officer plays a critical role in ensuring the safety and efficiency of all flight operations. This position requires meticulous attention to detail, adherence to strict operational standards, and a proactive approach to flight management. The First Officer works in close collaboration with the Captain, contributing significantly to a seamless and secure flying experience.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Conducts flights in strict compliance with the current flight plan, Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs), and the Captain's instructions.
  • Notifies the Captain of any changes to the flight plan, Air Traffic Control (ATC) instructions, or geographical position when the Captain is not at the controls.
  • Assists the Captain with administrative duties related to the flight as requested.
  • Ensures the safe navigation of the aircraft by maintaining a continuous and independent check of the aircraft's geographical position, confirming safe terrain and weather clearance.
  • Maintains the highest personal standards of discipline, professional conduct, and appearance as a representative of Etihad Airways at all times.

Remuneration & Benefits

Etihad Airways offers a highly competitive annual package, designed to attract and retain top aviation talent. This comprehensive package includes a basic salary, flying pay, a housing allowance to secure preferred accommodation, and generous layover and meal allowances. First Officers have the potential to earn up to 513,732 AED (approximately USD 138,318) tax-free per annum, based on 75 hours of flying per month. Annual salary increments are also provided based on performance.

Candidate Profile & Requirements

To be considered for the First Officer position, candidates must meet the following essential criteria:

  • A minimum of 2500 hours total flying time.
  • A minimum of 1500 hours on multi-crew, glass cockpit aircraft (1) or high-performance military jets.
  • At least 500 hours on one of the A320 Family aircraft.
  • Demonstrated experience flying any Airbus Fly-by-Wire (FBW) aircraft within the last 12 months.
  • The A320 type rating must be valid for a minimum of 2 months at the time of joining.
  • Possession of a current and unrestricted ICAO ATPL (Air Transport Pilot License). Frozen ATPLs are not accepted unless held by a UAE citizen.
  • Must be current on the A320 aircraft type.
  • Possession of an unrestricted, current Class 1 medical certificate.
  • Maximum age of 50 years on the date of joining.
  • English Language Fluency (written and verbal) equivalent to ICAO Level 4 or higher.
  • For hours accumulated on flights with in-flight relief, 75% of the total hours will be counted towards the required minimums.

(1) Glass Cockpit: Refers to aircraft equipped with a Flight Management System (FMS) coupled to an Automatic Flight Director System (AFDS).
