Key Responsibilities

A Delta Air Lines Flight Attendant is entrusted with ensuring a safe, comfortable, and memorable travel experience for all passengers. Key responsibilities include:

  • Supporting a global operation, requiring flexibility for non-traditional business hours including early mornings, late nights, overnights, weekends, and holidays.
  • Practicing safety-conscious behaviors and adhering strictly to all operational processes and procedures.
  • Providing exceptional customer service, anticipating and responding to passenger needs with professionalism.
  • Effectively managing unexpected changes within a time-sensitive and potentially stressful environment.
  • Answering questions and providing assistance to customers, particularly those with unique needs or circumstances.
  • Demonstrating consistent punctuality and reliability by reporting for duty as scheduled, irrespective of time changes.
  • Remaining adaptable to last-minute schedule adjustments and operational demands to ensure uninterrupted service delivery.
  • Demonstrating the proper use of safety and emergency equipment and ensuring all safety requirements are met.
  • Administering and coordinating emergency procedures, or providing emergency care (e.g., performing CPR and basic first aid) when necessary.
  • Responding to emergencies by providing clear and accurate verbal and/or non-verbal directions to customers.
  • Making sound decisions that align with Delta policies, procedures, and core values.
  • Preparing, serving, and selling beverages (including alcohol) and meals (which may include various allergens and dietary components).
  • Assisting customers with lifting and stowing luggage into overhead bins.
  • Actively ensuring the safety and comfort of customers during aircraft delays or turbulence.
  • Regularly making public address and safety announcements in compliance with company and federal standards.
  • Performing duties in changing environments, including adapting to the physiological effects experienced at altitude.

Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications

Prospective Flight Attendants must meet the following essential criteria:

  • Eligibility to work legally in the U.S.
  • Must be at least 21 years of age at the time of application.
  • Possession of a high school diploma, GED, or High School Equivalency.
  • Ability to speak, read, write, and understand English fluently.
  • Ability to acquire and maintain a valid passport and all necessary travel documents for unrestricted entry and exit to all destinations served by Delta. A valid passport with a minimum of 30 months validity remaining before the first day of training is required. Non-U.S. passport holders must provide documentation demonstrating their ability to exit and enter the United States without restriction.
  • Successful completion of a pre-employment Department of Transportation (DOT) drug test and a comprehensive background check.
  • Physical ability to sit in an assigned jump seat with seatbelt and shoulder harness fastened.
  • Ability to open emergency exits and close aircraft doors weighing up to 60 pounds, and to use a food/beverage cart requiring 32 pounds of force when pushing or pulling.
  • Demonstrates that privacy is a priority when handling personal data.

  • Consistently prioritizes safety and security, for self and others.
  • Ability to work flexible hours, including nights, weekends, holidays, and extended hours as operational needs dictate.
  • Ability to perform duties in a physically demanding role that requires frequent standing, walking, bending, stooping, pushing, pulling, reaching, and lifting (e.g., pushing/pulling beverage or food carts, lifting and opening emergency aircraft doors).
  • Ability to retrieve and store items in overhead bins, which can be as high as 74 inches from the floor.
  • Willingness to accept assignment to any Flight Attendant base after graduation from training, based on operational needs. Bilingual (LOD) candidates will be required to remain at their assigned base for a minimum of two years post-training.
  • Ability to attend and successfully complete seven consecutive weeks of paid training in Atlanta, GA, at Delta’s In-Flight Training Center.
  • Flexibility to relocate or commute (via standby travel) to and from your assigned base location, and capable of flying both international and domestic routes.
  • Willingness to adapt to changes to meet job demands, including short-notice scheduling adjustments.
  • Adherence to all corporate and departmental policies, including Delta’s Candidate Appearance Requirements (detailed in the Flight Attendant Hiring Process Guide) and Flight Attendant Appearance Requirements post-training.
  • Compliance with the Delta Air Lines Flight Attendant Application Policy, which permits one application (or re-application) for the Flight Attendant role no sooner than 90 days and a new job posting number. Attempts to circumvent this policy may result in automatic dispositioning of future applications and potential indefinite restrictions on applying for this or other positions within Delta.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Completion of a degree beyond a high school diploma or GED is preferred.

Additional Information & Expectations

Delta is actively seeking both English-speaking Flight Attendants and Bilingual Flight Attendants (also known as LOD/Language of Destination) to enhance its In-Flight Services team. Bilingual applicants must be fluent in English and the language selected on their application to be eligible. Available bilingual languages include Czech, Danish, Dutch, French, German, Greek, Italian, Korean, and Swedish.

Given Delta’s 24/7 global flight operations, Flight Attendants must exhibit significant flexibility regarding their work hours. Workdays may encompass early mornings, late nights, overnights, weekends, holidays, and extended hours as necessitated by operational reasons.

New hires are required to successfully complete seven consecutive weeks of intensive training at Delta’s World Headquarters in Atlanta, GA. During this period, participants receive a training wage and some meals. Shared lodging is provided for those residing beyond 25 miles of the training facility.

Upon successful completion of training, Flight Attendants will report to their assigned base, joining over 28,000 colleagues in In-Flight Service. Delta operates out of 19 bases, which include major hubs such as Atlanta, Boston, Detroit, Minneapolis, and New York. Base options are subject to operational need and may vary for Bilingual (LOD) Flight Attendants.
