Certified Flight Instructor - San Diego Flight Center
Position Overview:
San Diego Flight Center is seeking a highly motivated and dedicated Certified Flight Instructor (CFI) to join their team on a part-time, temporary basis. This position is based in San Diego, CA, and is exclusively for local candidates. The successful candidate will provide comprehensive flight instruction and ground training to California Aeronautical University (CAU) flight students, guiding them towards private and commercial pilot certifications, as well as instrument ratings. This will be conducted in accordance with CAU's Part 141/61 course structures and training syllabi.
Responsibilities:
The CFI will be responsible for:
- Providing high-quality flight and ground instruction, adhering to pertinent Airman Certification Standards and internal standardization requirements.
- Scheduling flight students using the school’s designated system.
- Conducting thorough pre-flight briefings and post-flight debriefings.
- Accurately documenting completed training lessons.
- Providing accurate and complete student endorsements.
- Submitting weekly activity reports, including assigned student progress, to the Assistant Chief Flight Instructor or Chief Flight Instructor.
- Maintaining strict adherence to all CAU rules and regulations, including Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) and Flight Information Files (FIFs).
- Upholding the philosophy and mission of CAU, while fostering a positive and progressive environment for all employees and students.
- Maintaining the highest ethical and professional standards in education.
- Assisting with departmental projects as needed.
- Treating students fairly and with respect, reporting potential issues or conflicts to relevant leadership.
Compliance and Operational Duties:
The CFI will be accountable for:
- Compliance with all local, state, accreditation, and federal regulations.
- Ensuring the completeness, accuracy, and security of all flight operation records, documents, and reports.
- Maintaining adherence to all company policies and procedures.
- Accurate and timely recordkeeping of work hours.
Compensation:
This position offers an hourly wage of $28.00, in compliance with all state and federal labor laws. This position is not eligible for bonuses, commissions, or other incentive-based pay, as prohibited by federal law.
Qualifications:
- Must hold a valid Flight Instructor Certificate.
- Demonstrated ability to effectively teach in accordance with FAA Fundamentals of Instruction, outlined in the FAA Aviation Instructor’s Handbook, and CAU Standard Operating Procedures.
- Proficiency in utilizing Windows and Apple iOS-based computer systems.
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to interact professionally with individuals from diverse backgrounds.
- Excellent ability to work under pressure, manage multiple priorities, and meet deadlines effectively.
- Proven ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions.
- Ability to effectively present information to Flight Operations leadership.
- Capacity to perform basic mathematical calculations.
- Ability to interpret instructions and deal with abstract and concrete variables.
- Physical capability to stand, walk, reach, and lift up to 25 pounds occasionally.
- Specific vision capabilities, including close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.
