Aviation Instructor Pilot
Join a dynamic team shaping the future of aviation training for the Royal Canadian Air Force (RCAF). As an Instructor Pilot, you will play a vital role in developing and delivering the pilot training system for the PC-21 trainer aircraft.
Initial responsibilities will focus on:
- Undertaking PC-21 type conversion training.
- Leading the design and development of courseware encompassing classroom instruction, synthetic training devices, and live flying exercises.
- Supporting acceptance testing for courseware, simulators, and the PC-21 aircraft.
- Contributing to the establishment of an integrated training centre through policy and procedure development.
- Supporting the integration and testing of information management systems.
- Testing of synthetic training device lesson plans and PC-21 air lesson plans (ALPs).
Once training commences, the Instructor Pilot will be responsible for:
- Maintaining an instructional category as a CQFI (Class One Flight Instructor).
- Delivering training in the classroom, utilizing synthetic training devices, and conducting live instruction in the PC-21 aircraft.
- Maintaining flying proficiency, category, and currency according to applicable orders (B-GA-100, RCAF FOM, 2 CFFTS Orders, and CQFI SOW).
- Executing instructional sorties in accordance with RCAF instructional doctrine.
- Demonstrating proficiency in all missions within the training syllabus, including cross-country and out-and-back flights.
- Assisting the flight commander in monitoring the instructional continuity of assigned students.
- Preparing and delivering presentations and briefings on instructional topics, including A Category ground school.
- Adhering to CAF Flight Safety program protocols outlined in A-GA-135-001/AA-001 – Flight Safety for the Canadian Armed Forces manual.
- Providing subject matter expertise and support to internal and external Operational and Training organizations.
- Participating in routine reviews and contributing to the ongoing improvement and maintenance of courseware.
- Potentially undertaking Maintenance Test Pilot duties as required.
Instructor Pilot Requirements:
Candidates without prior military experience must possess:
- A minimum of 500 hours of flying time in a single-pilot, high-performance airplane.
- A valid Transport Canada (TC) commercial pilot's license.
- A current or previously held TC instructor rating.
Candidates with prior military experience must demonstrate:
- Relevant military experience validated through a Prior Learning Assessment Requirement.
All candidates must:
- Possess fluency in English, encompassing reading, writing, and oral communication.
- Have at least ten years of military or professional flying experience.
- Maintain an unrestricted TC Category 1 medical certificate and any additional medical examinations required by the RCAF.
- Meet the body weight and anthropometric measurement requirements for the PC-21 aircraft.
Desired Qualifications/Experience:
- Previous experience as an NFTC QFI or PC-21 QFI.
- Prior flying supervisory or military flight leadership experience.
- Experience as a flight lead in a trainer or fighter aircraft.
- Experience in military instruction.
- Completion of the RCAF Aerospace Warfare Centre (RAWC) Operational Test and Evaluation Course (or equivalent).
- Verbal French language skills.
Additional Requirements:
Candidates must successfully complete a security evaluation as per the Controlled Goods Directorate of Canada and US ITAR regulations.
