The Role:
The Direct Entry Pilot - First Officer (Long Haul Fleets) will provide a world-class flight experience for every passenger. The position offers an exciting career path within British Airways. Starting on the short-haul Airbus fleet, pilots can choose to transfer to one of the long-haul fleets or remain on short-haul and progress to Captain. A variety of roles outside of flying, such as training and pilot recruitment, offer diverse opportunities for career development.

What the Candidate Brings to British Airways:
- Current UK-issued CAA Flight Crew Licence ATPL (A), fATPL (A), MPL, or hold an EASA license and meet the “Third Country CPL and ATPL license conversion requirements” set out by the UK CAA (route 3, 4, 5, or 6).
- Class 1 medical certificate.
- Height between 1.57m (5’2”) and 1.91m (6’3”). Qualified pilots taller than 1.91m may submit an application, subject to a functionality check.
- Good level of physical fitness.
- Spoken and written English ICAO level 6 proficiency.
- Valid passport (minimum 12 months before expiry date).
Pilots who currently hold an EASA license and previously held a UK Part-FCL license should upload a copy of their previous UK license or proof of UK training and license award.
Job offers will predominantly be made for the A320 and Boeing 777 (777 pilots operate out of LHR and LGW; 777 pilots will also operate the Boeing 777X when it enters service). A limited number of vacancies exist on other fleets, with preference given to those that hold a current rating on the aircraft type. Moves to other fleets will be processed via the internal fleet move system and awarded on a seniority basis.
Minimum Criteria to Apply:
- Hold a UK Part-FCL ATPL (or meet the criteria to upgrade to an ATPL during the type rating).
Or
- Hold an EASA license and meet the “Third Country CPL and ATPL license conversion requirements” set out by the UK CAA (route 3, 4, 5, or 6).
- To be considered for BA Euroflyer, applicants must have a minimum of 500 hours or 100 sectors on an aircraft type that satisfies ZFTT.
- To be considered for British Airways short-haul, applicants must have a minimum of 500 hours on the A320 and flown this type in the last 12 months.
- To be considered for a long-haul position, applicants must have more than 1500 hours on an aircraft type that satisfies ZFTT and flown this type in the last 12 months.
Important Notes:
- Candidates unsuccessful at initial screening, video interview, capacity testing, or assessment center stages can reapply after 6 months from their most recent assessment date. Candidates unsuccessful at the SIM stage must wait 12 months before reapplying.
- Applicants may only apply to one airline within the British Airways family (British Airways, Euroflyer, or Cityflyer) at a time.
- Long-haul suitability will be assessed during simulator assessment. A320 remains the primary recruiting fleet.
- Successful candidates will enter a hold pool and receive a maximum of 2 job offers.
