British Airways: Direct Entry Pilot - Long-Haul Fleets

Role Description:

The successful candidate will join British Airways as a First Officer, operating on the airline's extensive long-haul network. The primary responsibility will be to ensure the highest level of customer satisfaction by delivering world-class flying experiences to all passengers. Candidate Requirements:

  • Licensing: Must possess a current UK issued CAA Flight Crew Licence ATPL (A), fATPL (A), or MPL, or hold an EASA licence and meet the UK CAA's "Third Country CPL and ATPL licence conversion requirements" (route 3, 4, 5, or 6).
  • Medical: Must hold a valid Class 1 medical certificate.
  • Physical: Height must be between 1.57m (5’2”) and 1.91m (6’3”). Pilots exceeding 1.91m may apply, but must undergo a functionality check.
  • Fitness: Must maintain a good level of physical fitness.
  • Language: Must possess ICAO level 6 proficiency in spoken and written English.
  • Passport: Must hold a valid passport with at least 12 months validity.
  • EASA License Holders: Pilots with an EASA license who previously held a UK Part-FCL license, must provide a copy of their previous UK license or proof of training and awarding of a UK license.

Additional Information:

Job offers will be primarily for the A320 and Boeing 777 fleets. 777 pilots operate from both London Heathrow and Gatwick. 777 pilots will also operate the Boeing 777X once it enters service. Limited vacancies are available on other fleets, with preference given to those holding current ratings on those aircraft. Moves to other fleets will be based on seniority using the internal fleet move system.

Minimum Criteria to Apply:

  • Must hold a UK Part-FCL ATPL (or meet the criteria to upgrade to an ATPL during your type rating) or Hold an EASA licence and meet the "Third Country CPL and ATPL licence conversion requirements" set out by the UK CAA (route 3, 4, 5 or 6).
  • To be considered for BA Euroflyer, at the time of submitting your online application you must have a minimum of 500 hours or 100 sectors on an aircraft type that satisfies ZFTT (if you are not A320 rated) OR an A320 type rating with a minimum of 100 sectors but less than 500 hours on type and flown this type in the last 12 months.
  • To be considered for British Airways short-haul, at the time of submitting your online application you must have a minimum 500 hours on the A320 and flown this type in the last 12 months.
  • To be considered for a long-haul position, at the time of submitting your online application you must have more than 1500 hours on an aircraft type that satisfies ZFTT and flown this type in the last 12 months.

Important Notes:

Candidates unsuccessful at certain stages are subject to re-application waiting periods.

Applications are limited to one airline within the British Airways family at a time (British Airways, Euroflyer, or Cityflyer).

Long-haul suitability is assessed during simulator assessment, with limited long-haul positions available.

Successful candidates will enter a hold pool with a maximum of two job offers.
