Join British Airways, the nation's flag carrier, and become part of a legacy spanning over 100 years, connecting Britain with the world. British Airways takes immense pride in its pioneering spirit and offers a career path without limits for those inspired to think big and bring ambition to their work.
As a British Airways Direct Entry Pilot, the First Officer plays a crucial role in ensuring an exceptional flight experience for every passenger. This position demands world-class flying skills and a commitment to performing to the highest standards every day. The life of a commercial pilot with British Airways is dynamic and challenging. While initial placements may be on the short-haul Airbus fleet, pilots have the opportunity to progress to one of four long-haul fleets or pursue Captain roles on short-haul aircraft. Beyond flying, numerous opportunities exist within the airline, including roles in training and pilot recruitment, offering a truly diverse career path. Successful candidates will not only advance their flying careers but also gain access to a competitive reward and benefits package.
The airline looks for highly skilled and dedicated aviation professionals.
Note for EASA Licence Holders who previously held a UK Part-FCL licence: Please provide a copy of your previous UK licence or proof of completing training and being awarded a UK licence in the supporting application files.
British Airways Euroflyer: Minimum of 500 hours or 100 sectors on an aircraft type satisfying ZFTT at the time of application.
British Airways Short-Haul: Minimum of 500 hours on the A320 and current on type (flown within the last 12 months) at the time of application.
British Airways Long-Haul: More than 1500 hours on an aircraft type satisfying ZFTT and current on type (flown within the last 12 months) at the time of application.
Note: Long-haul suitability is assessed during the simulator evaluation. The primary recruiting fleet remains the A320, with a limited number of long-haul positions available. Job offers will predominantly be for the A320 and Boeing 777 fleets (777 operations from LHR and LGW, including future Boeing 777X operations). Vacancies on other fleets are limited, with preference for candidates holding a current type rating; moves to other fleets are managed via an internal seniority-based system.
Unsuccessful candidates at initial screening, video interview, capacity testing, or assessment centre stages may reapply after 6 months from their last assessment date.
Candidates unsuccessful at the simulator stage must wait 12 months before reapplying.
Applicants may only apply to one airline within the British Airways family (British Airways, Euroflyer, or Cityflyer) at a time. Unsuccessful applicants must observe the specified reapplication period before applying to any of the three airlines again.
Successful candidates will enter a hold pool and are eligible for a maximum of two job offers. Declining a second offer results in exiting the hold pool, requiring reapplication after 12 months and completion of the full selection process.
Current BA Cityflyer Pilots must apply via internal Jobsearch.
British Airways values its colleagues and offers a comprehensive package that extends beyond a competitive salary.
Note for LGW 777 Pilots: Hotel accommodation can be requested and provided the day before duty and a day room after landing for flight duty periods exceeding 8 hours (excluding positioning sectors).
British Airways celebrates the unique originality, creativity, and identity that all colleagues bring. People from all backgrounds are encouraged to apply and be part of the journey to become a Better BA, fostering a diverse and inclusive workplace.
