British Airways is seeking highly skilled and experienced Direct Entry First Officers to join its long-haul fleets based at London Heathrow in the UK.
British Airways aircraft take off somewhere around the globe every 90 seconds, transporting millions of customers to hundreds of international destinations annually. Operating one of the world's most modern and fuel-efficient fleets, Captains and First Officers at British Airways pride themselves on creating exceptional experiences and extending a warm British welcome to all passengers. As the nation's flag carrier, this commitment to service is integral to the airline's identity.
For over 100 years, British Airways has connected Britain with the world and the world with Britain, a legacy of pioneering spirit dating back to the world's first international scheduled air service between London and Paris. This originality is shared with customers, partners, and colleagues. Working at British Airways offers numerous opportunities, whether ensuring smooth operations under a wing or piloting aircraft to far-flung locations. The company encourages ambition and believes the sky is never the limit for career progression.
The customer is central to all operations at British Airways. Direct Entry First Officers are tasked with providing the highest possible flight experience for each passenger. Flying will be conducted to world-class standards, offering an exciting and challenging career demanding performance at the highest levels.
A pilot's career path within British Airways is dynamic. While initial roles may be on short-haul fleets, opportunities exist to transfer to one of the four long-haul fleets or pursue a Captain position on short-haul aircraft. A variety of non-flying roles, such as training or recruitment, also offer further career development. Alongside professional growth opportunities, pilots receive a competitive reward and benefits package.
Experienced pilots meeting rigorous standards are invited to apply.
Candidates must possess:
A UK Part-FCL ATPL(A)

Job offers will primarily be made for the A320 and Boeing 777 fleets. Boeing 777 pilots operate from LHR and LGW (with hotel accommodation provided for eligible LGW flights) and will also operate the Boeing 777X upon its entry into service. A limited number of vacancies may exist on other fleets, with preference given to candidates holding a current rating on the specific aircraft type. Moves to other fleets are processed internally based on seniority.
British Airways is an equal opportunities employer committed to diversity, valuing the unique contributions of all colleagues. This job description outlines the essential scope and nature of the role but is not exhaustive regarding qualifications, skills, duties, or responsibilities.
At the time of online application submission, candidates for a long-haul position must have accumulated more than 1500 hours on an aircraft type that satisfies ZFTT requirements and must have flown this type within the preceding 12 months.
Candidates unsuccessful at initial screening, video interview, capacity testing, or assessment centre stages may reapply after 6 months from their assessment date. Candidates unsuccessful at the simulator stage must wait 12 months before reapplying. Applicants may only apply to one airline within the British Airways family (British Airways, Euroflyer, or Cityflyer) concurrently. Failure in one campaign requires waiting the specified re-apply period before applying to any of the three airlines.
Long-haul suitability is assessed during the simulator assessment. Due to limited long-haul positions, the A320 remains our primary recruiting fleet. Successful candidates enter a hold pool and will receive a maximum of two job offers. Declining a second offer results in exiting the hold pool and requiring reapplication after 12 months, completing the entire selection process again.
Current BA Cityflyer Pilots must apply via Jobsearch.
