Key Responsibilities
The initial phase of employment involves a comprehensive, unpaid six-week training program designed to certify the individual as a safety professional, service expert, and brand ambassador for American Airlines. Upon successful completion of training and certification, responsibilities include:
- Consistently ensuring the safety and comfort of every customer, adhering strictly to all Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) regulations and company procedures.
- Demonstrating leadership and composure in responding to a wide array of emergency and non-emergency situations.
- Maintaining high standards of dependability and professionalism to facilitate on-time departures and seamless flight operations.
- Exhibiting adaptability and resilience in managing demanding schedules, including long hours and irregular working times, while remaining composed in a dynamic operational environment.
- Strictly adhering to all company policies, procedures, and performance standards, including uniform and appearance guidelines.
- Functioning effectively with a degree of independence, while simultaneously being a collaborative and dependable member of the flight crew.
- Delivering exceptional in-flight service, which may include serving meals and beverages and conducting onboard sales.
- Professional and caring management of diverse customer interactions, both onboard and in other travel-related environments.
- Operating effectively in varied global environments, accommodating different climates and time zones.
Qualifications for Success
Minimum Qualifications:
- Must be at least 20 years of age.
- Possession of a High School Diploma or GED equivalent is mandatory.
- A minimum of two years of customer service experience is required, with preference given to candidates with experience in retail, hospitality, food service, education, aviation, or social services.
- Physical requirements include height and weight specifications that allow for safe aircraft operation, including the ability to sit in a jump seat and fasten the harness without modifications, navigate the cabin aisle, and operate emergency exits.
- Must possess a valid U.S. or foreign passport with applicable visas, all of which must remain valid through at least December 31, 2026. Candidates holding a foreign passport must also provide all necessary documentation for legal work and travel within the U.S. and internationally.
- Must have the legal right to work in the United States and the ability to travel without restriction to all states and countries served by American Airlines.
- Willingness to relocate based on the operational needs of the company.
- Potential base locations include BOS, CLT, DCA, DFW, LGA, LAX, MIA, ORD, PHL, or PHX.
- Availability to work nights, weekends, holidays, and extended hours as required.
- Readiness to report for on-call (reserve) duty at the assigned base. Reserve duty may continue for an indeterminate period.
- Ability to professionally represent the American Airlines brand while in uniform, adhering to specific appearance standards including no visible tattoos, no more than one earring per ear, and no facial piercings.
