Key Responsibilities and Duties

Trainees commence their journey with a comprehensive, six-week, unpaid training program designed to certify them as aviation safety professionals, service experts, and official brand representatives. Once certified, the Flight Attendant is responsible for:

  • Upholding FAA regulations and rigorous company standards to ensure the safety and comfort of all customers on board.
  • Demonstrating composure, leadership, and decisive action during both emergency and non-emergency situations.
  • Maintaining the highest standards of dependability and professionalism to ensure seamless, on-time operational performance.
  • Exhibiting adaptability and resilience when managing irregular schedules, long duty periods, and a dynamic environment at 35,000 feet.
  • Strictly adhering to all company policies, performance standards, and uniform/appearance guidelines.
  • Working autonomously without direct supervision while simultaneously functioning as a cohesive and dependable member of the flight crew.
  • Delivering exceptional in-flight customer service, which includes serving hot and cold meals/beverages and facilitating onboard product sales.
  • Managing diverse customer-facing situations, both on the aircraft and during ground operations, with the utmost care and professionalism.
  • Operating effectively across diverse global environments, including varying time zones and climatic conditions.

Qualifications and Requirements

Minimum Qualifications

  • Must be at least 20 years of age at the time of application.
  • High school diploma or GED equivalent is required.
  • A minimum of two (2) years of relevant customer service experience in industries such as retail, hospitality, food service, education, or aviation is mandatory.
  • Height and weight must permit safe aircraft operation, including the ability to sit in a jump seat and fasten the standard harness without modification or extenders, navigate cabin aisles, and operate emergency exits.
  • Must possess a valid U.S. or foreign passport with applicable visas. All documentation must be valid through at least December 31, 2026. Candidates with foreign passports must independently secure all necessary documentation (e.g., work authorization, visas) for legal travel and work within the U.S. and internationally.
  • Must possess the legal right to work in the United States and the ability to travel unrestricted to and from all states and countries served by American Airlines.
  • Must be willing to relocate based on the company’s operational needs. Potential base locations include: BOS, CLT, DCA, DFW, LGA, LAX, MIA, ORD, PHL, or PHX.
  • Must be available to work nights, weekends, holidays, and extended hours as operational requirements demand.
  • Must be able to report for on-call (reserve) duty at the assigned base; reserve duty may continue for an undetermined number of years.
  • Must adhere strictly to American Airlines' uniform and appearance standards:
    • No visible tattoos.
    • No more than one (1) earring per ear.
    • No facial piercings.
