Responsibilities of a Flight Attendant Trainee:
The journey begins with a comprehensive, six-week unpaid training program designed to certify individuals as safety professionals, service experts, and trusted representatives of the American Airlines brand. Upon certification, responsibilities include:
- Consistently upholding FAA regulations and company procedures to ensure the safety and comfort of all customers.
- Demonstrating composure and leadership in responding to a wide range of emergency and non-emergency situations.
- Maintaining high standards of dependability and professionalism to facilitate on-time departures and seamless operations.
- Exhibiting adaptability and resilience when managing demanding hours, irregular schedules, and dynamic environments.
- Adhering strictly to company policies, procedures, and performance standards, including uniform and appearance guidelines.
- Working autonomously while remaining a collaborative and integral member of the flight crew.
- Providing exceptional in-flight service, including the provision of meals, beverages, and onboard product sales.
- Effectively managing diverse customer interactions, both onboard and during ground operations, with professionalism and care.
- Operating proficiently within varied global environments, accommodating different climates and time zones.
Qualifications for Success:
Minimum Qualifications:
- Must be at least 20 years of age.
- Possession of a High School Diploma or GED equivalent is mandatory.
- A minimum of two years of customer service experience in industries such as retail, hospitality, food service, education, aviation, or social services is required.
- Height and weight must be conducive to safe aircraft operation, including the ability to sit in a jump seat with a fastened harness (without modifications or extenders) and navigate cabin aisles to operate emergency exits.
- Must possess a valid U.S. or foreign passport, with all applicable visas and documentation valid through at least December 31, 2026. Candidates holding a foreign passport must also hold valid documentation for legal work and travel within the U.S. and internationally.
- Must have the legal right to work in the United States and the ability to travel without restriction to all states and countries served by American Airlines.
- Willingness to relocate based on the company’s operational needs.
- Potential base locations include Boston (BOS), Charlotte (CLT), Washington Reagan (DCA), Dallas/Fort Worth (DFW), New York City LGA (LGA), Los Angeles (LAX), Miami (MIA), Chicago (ORD), Philadelphia (PHL), or Phoenix (PHX).
- Availability to work nights, weekends, holidays, and extended hours as operational demands require.
- Readiness to report for on-call (reserve) duty at the assigned base, which may extend for an indeterminate period.
- Ability to professionally represent the American Airlines brand while in uniform, adhering to specific appearance standards (e.g., no visible tattoos, one earring per ear, no facial piercings).
