III. Essential Responsibilities and Duties
The journey begins with a comprehensive six-week unpaid training program, designed to certify individuals as safety professionals, service experts, and trusted brand representatives. Once certified, the Flight Attendant is responsible for the following core functions:
- Ensuring the absolute safety and comfort of every customer by consistently adhering to all FAA regulations and stringent company procedures.
- Demonstrating leadership and composure while responding effectively to a wide variety of emergency and non-emergency situations.

IV. Qualifications and Success Requirements
Minimum Qualifications
- Must be at least 20 years of age at the time of application.
- High school diploma or GED equivalent is required.
- A minimum of two years of customer service experience in relevant sectors such as retail, hospitality, food service, education, aviation, or social services is mandatory.
- Height and weight must permit safe aircraft operation, including the ability to sit in a jump seat and fasten the harness without modifications or extenders, and to navigate the cabin aisle and operate emergency exits.
- Must possess a valid U.S. or foreign passport with applicable visas, with all documentation valid through at least December 31, 2026. Candidates with foreign passports must possess all necessary and valid documentation to legally work and travel as a Flight Attendant within the U.S. and internationally (e.g., work authorization, visas, permanent resident card, etc.).
- Must have the legal right to work in the United States and the ability to travel unrestricted to and from all states and countries served by American Airlines.
- Must be willing to relocate based on the company’s operational needs. Potential base locations include BOS, CLT, DCA, DFW, LGA, LAX, MIA, ORD, PHL, or PHX.
- Availability to work nights, weekends, holidays, and extended hours as required is essential.
- Must be able to report for on-call (reserve) duty at the assigned base. Reserve duty may continue for an undetermined number of years.
