Key Responsibilities

The Flight Attendant Trainee position begins with a comprehensive, unpaid 6-week training program designed to certify individuals as safety professionals and service experts. Upon successful certification, responsibilities include:

  • Maintaining the safety and comfort of all customers by rigorously adhering to Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) regulations and company procedures.
  • Responding to various emergency and non-emergency situations with leadership and composure.
  • Upholding high standards of dependability and professionalism to ensure punctual departures and seamless flight operations.
  • Demonstrating adaptability and resilience by managing long hours and irregular schedules in a dynamic environment.
  • Adhering to all company policies, procedures, and performance standards, including uniform and appearance guidelines.
  • Operating independently while maintaining collaborative and dependable teamwork with the flight crew.
  • Delivering exceptional in-flight service, which may include serving meals and beverages and selling onboard products.
  • Managing a diverse range of customer interactions, both on and off the aircraft, with professionalism and care.

Qualifications for Success

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Must be at least 20 years of age.
  • High school diploma or GED equivalent is required.
  • A minimum of two years of customer service experience is necessary, with preference given to candidates from industries such as retail, hospitality, food service, education, aviation, or social services.
  • Height and weight must be conducive to safe aircraft operation, including the ability to sit in a jump seat with a fastened harness without modifications, navigate the cabin aisle, and operate emergency exits.
  • Possession of a valid U.S. or foreign passport with applicable visas, all valid through at least December 31, 2026. Candidates with foreign passports must possess all necessary documentation for legal work and travel within the U.S. and internationally.
  • Must have the legal right to work in the United States and be able to travel unrestricted to all states and countries served by American Airlines.
  • Willingness to relocate based on the company's operational needs.
  • Potential base locations include Boston (BOS), Charlotte (CLT), Washington D.C. (DCA), Dallas/Fort Worth (DFW), New York (LGA), Los Angeles (LAX), Miami (MIA), Chicago (ORD), Philadelphia (PHL), or Phoenix (PHX).
  • Availability to work nights, weekends, holidays, and extended hours as required.
  • Ability to report for on-call (reserve) duty at the assigned base, with reserve duty potentially continuing for an indeterminate number of years.
  • Must be able to professionally represent the American Airlines brand while in uniform, adhering to appearance standards including no visible tattoos, no more than one earring per ear, and no facial piercings.
