Key Responsibilities of the Role
The journey begins with a comprehensive, six-week, unpaid Flight Attendant Trainee program, which certifies the individual as a safety professional, service expert, and trusted brand representative. Once certified, the Flight Attendant is responsible for:
- Ensuring the utmost safety and comfort of all customers by rigorously adhering to FAA regulations and established company procedures.
- Demonstrating leadership and composure while effectively responding to emergency and non-emergency situations.
- Upholding high standards of professionalism and dependability to maintain on-time departures and seamless operational flow.
- Exhibiting adaptability and resilience necessary to manage irregular schedules, extended hours, and maintaining composure in a dynamic, fast-paced environment.
- Strictly adhering to all company policies, performance standards, including uniform and appearance guidelines.
- Working effectively as a collaborative, dependable member of the flight crew while often operating independently without direct supervision.
- Delivering exceptional in-flight service, including the distribution of hot and cold meals and beverages, and managing onboard product sales.
- Professionally and compassionately handling a wide variety of customer-facing interactions, both on and off the aircraft.
- Operating efficiently in diverse global environments, navigating various climates and time zones.
Minimum Qualifications for Success
Essential Requirements
- Must be at least 20 years of age.
- Possession of a high school diploma or GED equivalent is mandatory.
- A minimum of two years of direct customer service experience in relevant fields such as retail, hospitality, food service, education, aviation, or social services.
- Height and weight must permit safe aircraft operation, including the ability to sit comfortably in a jump seat with a fastened harness (without modifications or extenders) and the capability to navigate cabin aisles and operate emergency exits.
- Must possess a valid U.S. or foreign passport with applicable visas. All travel documentation must remain valid through at least December 31, 2026.
- Foreign passport holders must also possess all necessary, valid documentation (e.g., work authorization, visas, permanent resident card) required to legally work and travel internationally and within the U.S.
- Must maintain the legal right to work in the United States and the ability to travel without restriction to and from all countries and states served by American Airlines.
- Willingness to relocate based on organizational and operational requirements. Potential base locations include BOS, CLT, DCA, DFW, LGA, LAX, MIA, ORD, PHL, or PHX.
- Must be available and willing to work nights, weekends, holidays, and extended hours as operational needs dictate.
- Must be prepared to report for on-call (reserve) duty at the assigned base. Reserve duty may be required for an undetermined duration of years.
