Key Responsibilities

As a Flight Attendant Trainee, candidates will participate in a comprehensive, unpaid 6-week training program designed to certify them as safety professionals, service experts, and brand ambassadors. Upon certification, responsibilities include:

  • Ensuring the safety and comfort of all customers, adhering strictly to Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) regulations and company procedures.
  • Responding with leadership and composure to a wide range of emergency and non-emergency situations.
  • Maintaining high standards of dependability and professionalism to ensure punctual departures and seamless flight operations.
  • Demonstrating adaptability and resilience in managing demanding schedules, including long hours and irregular timings, while remaining composed in a dynamic environment.
  • Adhering to all company policies, procedures, and performance standards, including uniform and appearance guidelines.
  • Working independently while functioning as a collaborative and dependable member of the flight crew.
  • Delivering exceptional in-flight service, which may include serving meals and beverages and selling onboard products.
  • Managing diverse customer interactions, both onboard and during ground operations, with professionalism and care.
  • Operating effectively in various global environments, adapting to different climates and time zones.

Qualifications for Success

Minimum Qualifications

  • Must be a minimum of 20 years of age.
  • Possession of a high school diploma or GED equivalent is required.
  • A minimum of two years of customer service experience in sectors such as retail, hospitality, food service, education, aviation, or social services.
  • Height and weight must be conducive to safe aircraft operations, including the ability to:
    • Sit in a jump seat and securely fasten the harness without modifications or extenders.
    • Maneuver throughout the aircraft cabin aisle and operate emergency exits.
  • Must hold a valid U.S. or foreign passport with all necessary visas, valid through at least December 31, 2026. Candidates with foreign passports must possess all required documentation for legal work and travel within the U.S. and internationally.
  • Must have legal authorization to work in the United States and be able to travel without restriction to and from all states and countries served by American Airlines.
  • Willingness to relocate based on the operational needs of the company.
  • Potential base locations include BOS, CLT, DCA, DFW, LGA, LAX, MIA, ORD, PHL, or PHX.
  • Availability to work nights, weekends, holidays, and extended hours as required.
  • Readiness to report for on-call (reserve) duty at the assigned base, with reserve duty potentially continuing for an indeterminate period.
  • Ability to professionally represent the American Airlines brand while in uniform. This includes:
    • No visible tattoos.
    • No more than one earring per ear.
    • No facial piercings.
