Flight Attendant

The Flight Attendant will be responsible for maintaining a high standard of in-flight service, including serving meals and beverages, and selling onboard products. They must be capable of handling diverse situations while interacting with the public, both on and off the aircraft. This role requires the ability to work independently as well as part of a collaborative team, often without direct supervision. Ensuring the safety and comfort of customers is paramount, requiring leadership in responding to both emergency and non-emergency situations. The position involves working in varied climates and locations across the globe, with variable shifts and adherence to company policies, procedures, and attendance standards. Flexibility is essential, as alternative work schedules, including evenings and weekends, may be required. The candidate must demonstrate adaptability to the flight attendant lifestyle and meet standards of dependability to ensure on-time flights.
All candidates must be willing to attend up to 6.5 weeks of unpaid training in Dallas/Fort Worth, Texas, and, upon successful completion of the training program, be prepared to move immediately to any of American Airlines' base locations, including Boston (BOS), Charlotte (CLT), Washington, D.C. (DCA), Dallas-Fort Worth (DFW), New York City (JFK/LGA), Los Angeles (LAX), Miami (MIA), Chicago (ORD), Philadelphia (PHL), and Phoenix (PHX).
Minimum qualifications include being at least 20 years of age, possessing a high school diploma or GED equivalent, and meeting specific height and weight requirements for safe aircraft operation. Candidates must pass a DOT pre-employment drug test and a TSA required fingerprint-based criminal history records check. A valid U.S. or Foreign Passport with applicable VISAs is necessary, along with the legal right to work in the United States and unrestricted travel abilities. Willingness to relocate, work flexible hours including nights, weekends, and holidays, and be on call for reserve duty are also essential. Flight Attendants must maintain a professional appearance in uniform, with no visible tattoos and no more than one earring per ear.
Required skills include the ability to read, write, speak, and make announcements in English, execute safety procedures, demonstrate service orientation, self-motivation, and a positive attitude. Problem-solving, conflict resolution, and de-escalation skills are also necessary. Additionally, the ability to work effectively with individuals and teams at all levels is crucial.
The role demands physical fitness, including the ability to stand for extended periods, lift up to 50 pounds, and operate aircraft equipment such as overhead storage compartments and beverage carts. Flight Attendants must be able to assist disabled passengers and endure extensive travel with consecutive nights away from home.
