The successful candidate will uphold company policies and procedures and maintain consistent on-time performance. They must also be able to adapt to alternative work schedules.
Key responsibilities include delivering consistent, high-quality in-flight service, including meal and beverage service and product sales, while maintaining composure in a variety of situations. Flight attendants will also be required to ensure passenger safety and provide leadership in emergency situations. This role will also require travel to various climates and locations across the globe and to work variable shifts. Candidates must be willing to attend up to 6 1/2 weeks of unpaid training in Dallas/Fort Worth, Texas, and upon successful graduation, move immediately to any of the base locations including BOS, CLT, DCA, DFW, JFK/LGA, LAX, MIA, ORD, PHL, and PHX.
Minimum qualifications include being at least 20 years of age, possession of a high school diploma or GED, and height and weight that allows for the safe operation of the aircraft. Candidates must pass a DOT pre-employment drug test, a TSA fingerprint-based criminal history records check, and a background check. A valid U.S. or Foreign Passport with required VISAs is essential, along with the legal right to work in the United States and the ability to travel unrestricted to and from all locations served by American Airlines. Candidates must also be willing to relocate based on operational needs. Other qualifications include the ability to work nights, weekends, holidays, and extended hours, and must be available for reserve duty. Flight attendants must also professionally represent the American Airlines brand while in uniform, with no visible tattoos and limited jewelry. The ability to communicate effectively in English, perform safety procedures, and handle difficult situations is also required.
The role requires physical stamina, including the ability to stand for extended periods, lift up to fifty pounds, close overhead compartments with a maximum push/pull force of 50 pounds, assist disabled passengers, and push/pull food and beverage carts with a maximum force of 60 pounds. Extensive travel is required, as well as the ability to spend consecutive nights away from home and to endure a variety of climates.
