Responsibilities of a Flight Attendant:
- Provide consistent, high-quality in-flight service, including serving meals and beverages, and facilitating onboard product sales.
- Demonstrate exceptional interpersonal skills, effectively interacting with passengers throughout their journey.
- Exercise independent judgment and teamwork to manage a variety of situations, both on and off the aircraft.
- Prioritize the safety and comfort of our passengers, adhering to all safety protocols and procedures.
- Respond effectively to both emergency and non-emergency situations, demonstrating leadership and composure.
- Maintain flexibility to work variable shifts and travel to destinations worldwide.
- Uphold punctuality and dependability to ensure on-time flight operations.
- Comply with company policies, procedures, and attendance/performance standards.
- Adapt to the dynamic demands of the flight attendant lifestyle, including alternative work schedules.
Training and Base Locations
Selected candidates must successfully complete up to 6 1/2 weeks of unpaid training in Dallas/Fort Worth, Texas. Upon graduation, flight attendants will be placed in one of our base locations, including:
- BOS (Boston, MA)
- CLT (Charlotte, NC)
- DCA (Washington, DC)
- DFW (Dallas-Fort Worth, TX)
- JFK/LGA (New York City, NY)
- LAX (Los Angeles, CA)
- MIA (Miami, FL)
- ORD (Chicago, IL)
- PHL (Philadelphia, PA)
- PHX (Phoenix, AZ)
Qualifications and Requirements
- Minimum 20 years of age.
- High school diploma or GED equivalent.
- Meet specific height and weight requirements to ensure safe operation of the aircraft.
- Pass a DOT pre-employment drug test, TSA fingerprint-based criminal history records check, and background check.
- Possess a valid U.S. or Foreign Passport with applicable VISAs.
- Legal right to work in the United States and ability to travel unrestricted to all destinations served by American Airlines.
- Willingness to relocate based on operational needs.
- Flexibility to work nights, weekends, holidays, and extended hours, including on-call and reserve duty.
- Professional appearance adhering to the American Airlines uniform standards.
- Excellent communication skills in English, including reading, writing, making announcements, and providing clear instructions.
- Proficiency in safety procedures and emergency protocols.
- Strong service orientation and a positive attitude.
- Demonstrated problem-solving, conflict resolution, and de-escalation skills.
- Ability to work effectively both independently and as part of a team.
- Physical ability to perform the essential functions of the job, including standing for extended periods, lifting luggage (up to 50 pounds), operating emergency exits, and assisting passengers with disabilities.
