Position Overview
Hawaiian Airlines is actively recruiting for Flight Attendants to join its West Coast bases. The primary responsibility of a Flight Attendant is to ensure the safety and well-being of guests aboard company aircraft. This role demands the physical and psychological capability to execute safety procedures and provide assistance during emergencies. Flight Attendants operate in a fast-paced environment, requiring the ability to manage emergency situations and interact with diverse personalities in an attentive and pleasant manner. Secondarily, Flight Attendants are responsible for delivering a consistent and prescribed level of customer service, including food and beverage service, thereby providing an unparalleled Aloha experience. This is a union-represented position.
Key Responsibilities
- Preflight Preparation & Briefings: Attend preflight briefings to review crucial flight details, including weather, route, altitude, emergency procedures, crew coordination, flight duration, and onboard services. Prepare the aircraft cabin, ensuring readiness for boarding and departure.
- Guest Interaction & Assistance: Greet guests warmly, guide them to their assigned seats, and assist with stowing carry-on luggage. Respond to flight-related inquiries and provide prompt, courteous service throughout the flight.
- Safety Demonstrations & Compliance: Demonstrate the proper use of safety equipment, such as seat belts, oxygen masks, and life jackets. Monitor guest adherence to safety regulations and address any infractions professionally and effectively.
- Emergency Response & Incident Reporting: Direct and assist guests during emergency procedures, including evacuations. Administer first aid when necessary and complete comprehensive written and verbal reports for any emergency or safety-related incidents.
- In-Flight Service Delivery: Provide consistent food and beverage service in accordance with airline procedures. Collect and reconcile payments for onboard purchases, including meals, alcoholic beverages, and duty-free items.
- Landing Preparation & Post-Flight Duties: Prepare guests and the cabin for landing by following established procedures. Ensure the cabin is secure and assist with deplaning as needed.
- Training & Regulatory Compliance: Successfully complete annual FAA-approved re-certification training and maintain current knowledge of emergency procedures as per FAA and airline regulations. Must be able to obtain and maintain authorization for unescorted access to aircraft and SIDA areas.
- Teamwork, Professionalism & Physical Readiness: Collaborate effectively with crew members to deliver a seamless and pleasant guest experience. Maintain professionalism, identify and escalate potential issues, and meet the physical demands of high-altitude flying and varied schedules, including evenings, weekends, and holidays. Must be able to work effectively with colleagues to provide prompt and pleasant responses to guest inquiries, requests, and complaints during flights, fostering a continuous Aloha experience.
Emergency Duty Considerations
During emergency situations, Flight Attendants may be required to perform duties including, but not limited to:
- Assisting ill or incapacitated passengers and fellow crew members.
- Evacuating the aircraft during conditions such as heavy, dense smoke from a cabin fire.
- Accessing, handling, and operating emergency equipment, including oxygen bottles and fire extinguishers.
- Removing and lifting emergency cabin windows, which can weigh up to 60 pounds.
- Exiting the aircraft via emergency slides from a height of approximately 24.5 feet.
All outlined duties, including emergency responsibilities, are considered essential functions of the Flight Attendant role.
Qualifications and Requirements
Required:
- A minimum of two (2) years of direct customer experience in the hospitality or airline industry, OR four (4) years of customer contact and issue resolution in industries such as retail, education, healthcare, or professional services.
- Proficiency in speaking business-level Japanese and the ability to read Romaji or Kanji.
- Vertical reach of 82 inches.
- Successful completion of annual FAA-approved re-certification training provided by Hawaiian Airlines.
- Ability to learn and maintain current knowledge and competency of emergency procedures in accordance with Hawaiian and FAA regulations.
- Demonstrated strong customer service skills and the ability to effectively diffuse and resolve challenging customer situations.
- Acknowledge that flight attendants work in environments with varying climatic conditions, variable gravitational loads due to turbulence, and fluctuating cabin pressurization. Requirements include the ability to stand for extended periods (four to seventeen hours), which may involve stooping, twisting, and pulling/pushing cabin equipment.
- Ability to lift 25 lbs. from floor to above shoulder height.
- Comfortable participating in emergency training that may involve being in a swimming pool with a life vest, and being in water during an in-flight emergency.
- Ability to properly secure oneself in a jump seat with a harness (without a seat belt extension) and to move expeditiously through the cabin aisle in both emergency and non-emergency situations.
- Successful completion of an FAA-approved, unpaid eight (8) week intensive training program provided by Hawaiian Airlines.
- Ability to serve alcohol.
- Willingness to relocate within Hawaii or the continental U.S.
- Proficient English language skills (reading, writing, and speaking).
- Possession of a valid passport and the ability to secure applicable visas for all countries served by Hawaiian Airlines.
- Legal authorization to travel to all countries served by Hawaiian Airlines; travel documents must remain valid throughout training and employment.
- Availability to work alternative schedules, including evenings, weekends, and holidays.
- High school diploma or GED equivalent.
- Minimum age of 21 years old.
- Authorization to work in the U.S.
Preferred:
- College education or degree.
Compensation and Benefits
This role is paid per collective bargaining agreement. Starting rates vary by seniority list:
- Alaska Seniority List: First year step rate of $32.00 per contract.
- Hawaiian Seniority List: First year step rate of $28.96 per contract.

Additional Information
Professional Image: Must present a professional image. Visible body art (including tattoos), facial, multiple or upper ear piercings, gauge piercings, or extreme hair color/styles are not permitted while in uniform or in public areas.
Base Assignment: Candidates may be assigned a base listed in the job details upon hiring. Classes are being pooled for 2026.
FAA Training Requirement: Training will be conducted in Honolulu and comprises eight (8) weeks of unpaid instruction.
Airport SIDA Badge: Employees working at an airport or maintenance hangar are required to obtain and maintain a SIDA badge. Failure to qualify for or maintain a SIDA badge may result in termination.
