Position Summary:
The primary responsibility of a Hawaiian Airlines Flight Attendant is to ensure the safety of guests aboard Company aircraft. This requires being physically and psychologically capable of performing safety procedures and assisting guests in the event of an emergency. Flight Attendants operate in a dynamic, fast-paced environment, requiring the ability to handle emergency situations effectively and interact with diverse personalities attentively and pleasantly.
Secondary to safety, Flight Attendants provide a consistent and prescribed level of customer service in the aircraft cabin during flight. This includes offering food and beverage service while delivering an unparalleled Aloha experience.
Key Responsibilities:
- Attends preflight briefings covering weather, altitudes, routes, emergency procedures, crew coordination, flight durations, food and beverage services, and guest numbers.
- Pleasantly greets and directs guests to assigned seats and answers flight-related questions.
- Assists guests with stowing carry-on luggage in overhead compartments or under seats.
- Demonstrates the use of safety equipment (e.g., seat belts, oxygen masks, life jackets) and emergency procedures before takeoff.
- Walks aisles to monitor guest observation of safety regulations, enforces regulations, advises guests of safety infractions, and effectively de-escalates and resolves difficult guest situations.
- Directs and assists guests in emergency procedures, such as evacuating an aircraft following an emergency landing.
- Provides food and beverage service consistently according to procedure.
- Collects and reconciles payments for various onboard products (e.g., alcoholic beverages, meals, duty-free sales).
- Administers first aid when necessary.
- Creates written and verbal reports of emergency or safety incidents occurring during flight.
- Prepares guests and aircraft for landing in accordance with procedures.
- Successfully completes annual FAA-approved re-certification provided by Hawaiian Airlines.
- Obtains and maintains an Airport Operations Area (AOA) Badge.
- Possesses the ability to learn and maintain current knowledge and competency in emergency procedures aligned with Hawaiian Airlines and FAA Regulations.
- Is available to work alternative schedules, including evenings, weekends, and holidays.
- Effectively and professionally interacts with colleagues and guests.
- Collaborates effectively with colleagues to deliver an exceptional aloha experience by providing prompt and pleasant responses to guest inquiries, requests, and complaints during flights.
- Demonstrates the ability to identify potential problems, recognize issues, and escalate concerns appropriately.
- Is able to work in varying climates and locations globally and work variable shifts.
- Is capable of flying at high altitude.
- Meets the physical demands of the job.
- Assists ill or incapacitated passengers and fellow crew members.
- Is able to evacuate the aircraft in heavy, dense smoke during a cabin fire.
- Handles and operates oxygen bottles and fire extinguishers.
- Removes and lifts emergency cabin windows (weighing up to 60 pounds).
- Is able to jump down the emergency slide from a height of approximately 24.5 feet.
All outlined job duties, including emergency duties, are considered essential functions of the Flight Attendant role.
Minimum Requirements:
- Must be 21 years old at the time of application.
- Possesses a high school diploma or GED equivalent.
- Presents a professional image. Visible body art (including tattoos), facial, multiple or upper ear piercing, gauge piercings, or extreme hair color or style are not permitted while in the Flight Attendant Uniform and in public areas.
- Demonstrates strong customer service skills and the ability to effectively de-escalate and resolve difficult customer situations.
- Is able to read, write, and speak English proficiently.
- Must be able to proficiently speak advanced/business level Korean and read Korean characters (Hangul).
- Successfully completes an FAA-approved, unpaid eight-week intensive training program provided by Hawaiian Airlines.
- Is able to relocate within the state of Hawaii or the continental U.S.
- Is available to work alternative schedules, including evenings, weekends, and holidays.
- Possesses the ability to reach 82 inches vertically.
- Is able to sit in a cabin crew jump seat with seatbelt and shoulder harness fastened.
- Successfully completes pre-employment requirements, including a Drug Test, tuberculosis (TB) screening, and background check.
- Must be legally authorized to work in the United States.
- Must possess a valid passport and be able to secure applicable visas for travel to countries served by Hawaiian Airlines.
- Must possess the legal right to travel from all countries served by Hawaiian Airlines.
- Travel documents must remain valid throughout all phases of training and employment.
- Flight Attendants work in an environment subject to varying climatic conditions, variable positive and negative gravitational loads induced by turbulence, and varying levels of cabin pressurization. Additionally, Flight Attendants are required to stand for up to four to seventeen hours, during which time stooping, twisting, and pulling and pushing cabin equipment may be necessary.
- Current Hawaiian Airlines employees must be in good standing with the company.
Hawaiian Airlines is regulated by the Department of Transportation (DOT - regulation, 49 CFR part 40). Applicants are advised that post-offer and/or pre-employment drug testing will be conducted to determine the presence of Marijuana, Cocaine, Opioids, PCP (Phencyclidine), and Amphetamine prior to any offer of employment or transfer into a safety-sensitive position. Failure to submit to testing or positive indications of drug use will render the applicant ineligible for employment with Hawaiian Airlines, and any employment offer will be withdrawn.
In addition to routine employment eligibility verification, U.S.-based airlines must gather information to validate country of citizenship and country of birth. Upon hire, documentation proving current country citizenship and birthplace must be provided.
Must be legally authorized to work in the United States, for any employer, without sponsorship. Hawaiian Airlines will not sponsor applicants for nonimmigrant or immigrant employment visas or status for this position.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Two years of direct customer experience in the hospitality or airline industry, OR four years of customer contact and customer service issue resolution with the general public in industries such as retail, education, health care, and/or professional services.
- College education or degree.
