Aircraft Maintenance Instructor and Subject Matter Expert

AJAC seeks a highly skilled and experienced Aircraft Maintenance Instructor and Subject Matter Expert to contribute to its A&P Mechanic program. This is a part-time position requiring approximately 60 hours of commitment over a 12-week period, with compensation ranging from $41 to $45 per hour. The role involves travel to campus locations in the greater Seattle area one evening per week and/or to the AJAC offices in Kent.

The successful candidate will be responsible for instructing apprentices in general airframe and powerplant concepts and skills, utilizing an online system for tracking attendance and progress. The instructor will adapt to varied teaching situations, effectively managing classroom and lab environments while fostering a positive learning atmosphere. Furthermore, this individual will actively participate in instructor training meetings and consistently employ clear written and oral communication skills.

As a subject matter expert, this position entails collaborating with AJAC's curriculum development team. The individual will review existing curriculum, ensuring alignment with FAA standards, and provide constructive feedback to enhance course content.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Instruct apprentices on general airframe and powerplant principles and practical skills.
  • Maintain accurate records of apprentice attendance and progress via an online platform.
  • Deliver instruction effectively in both classroom and laboratory settings.
  • Establish and enforce appropriate guidelines for student conduct in learning environments.
  • Engage in instructor training sessions.
  • Communicate effectively in written and spoken English.
  • Offer subject matter expertise to curriculum developers.
  • Assess curriculum to confirm FAA compliance.
  • Provide feedback on course material following instruction.

Qualifications:

  • Minimum of five years of experience as an aircraft mechanic.
  • Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively with diverse populations.
  • Capacity to comprehend and execute instructions delivered in written, oral, or diagrammatic formats.
  • Exceptional communication skills.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Possession of a journey-level certification or FAA A&P license.
  • Previous experience in teaching or mentoring within a higher education, technical, or vocational setting.
  • Current certification in First Aid and CPR.
