Job Summary

This attractive internship within the esteemed Flight Operations Crew Resources Planning & Analysis team offers a unique opportunity for aspiring professionals to contribute to the strategic and operational planning of pilot resources. The team is pivotal in forecasting long-term pilot hiring and training needs, spanning a two-month to five-year outlook, and plays a crucial role in constructing and awarding monthly pilot schedules. As a key contributor, the intern will gain unparalleled exposure to the complexities of airline operations, supporting critical initiatives that ensure the safe, reliable, and efficient deployment of United's world-class pilot workforce. Successful interns may be considered for full-time conversion, based on performance, position availability, and operational requirements, offering a direct pathway to a rewarding career.

Key Responsibilities

• Develop comprehensive fleet and crew base strategies, ensuring alignment with dynamic Network Planning schedules and United's strategic growth initiatives.
• Conduct in-depth analysis of crew reserve trends to generate refined forecasts, thereby optimizing reserve support for enhanced operational reliability.
• Leverage advanced data analytics and visualization technologies to critically review and effectively communicate key trends pertaining to the pilot workforce.
• Evaluate and analyze evolving trends within monthly schedule build processes, identifying opportunities to enhance operational efficiency and improve pilot quality of life.

Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications:

• Current enrollment in a Bachelor's or Master's Degree program.
• Exceptional verbal and written communication skills, complemented by strong interpersonal abilities.
• Demonstrated proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, particularly PowerPoint (including charts, data visualization, and Thinkcell) and Excel (proficient in pivot tables, advanced formulas, and basic modeling).
• Superior analytical and problem-solving capabilities.
• Possession of intellectual curiosity, a strong desire for continuous learning, and a proactive approach to initiative-taking.
• Proven leadership qualities and a strong sense of ownership in work.
• Ability to relocate to Chicago, IL, where this position is based.
• Availability to commit to a 10-12 week internship during Summer 2026.
• Legally authorized to work in the United States for any employer without requiring sponsorship, both now and in the future.
• Successful completion of the interview process to meet all job qualifications.
• Reliable and punctual attendance, recognized as an essential function of this position.

Preferred Qualifications:

• Pursuing a degree in a quantitative field such as Industrial Engineering, Data Analytics, Computer Science, Aviation Management, Operations Management, or Business Analytics.
• Anticipated graduation date between December 2026 and June 2027.
• Prior experience with SQL or Python.
• Familiarity with data visualization tools such as PowerBI or Palantir Foundry.
