About the Role
DoorDash Labs is seeking a UAS Flight Test Operator I/II to join its hands-on field testing team, supporting the flight validation of new drone platforms. The role involves working closely with engineering and flight leads to execute test flights safely, efficiently, and with precision, contributing to the advancement of autonomous aerial systems. The successful candidate will report to the Flight Test Lead.
Key Responsibilities:
- Execute structured drone test flights in both manual and autonomous modes, adjusting flight parameters in real-time based on evolving test plans and feedback.
- Support daily test readiness through pre- and post-flight checks, battery management, equipment preparation, and on-site logistics assistance.
- Operate in field environments requiring extended periods of standing, repetitive drone handling, and outdoor exposure to varying weather conditions.
- Maintain flexibility and responsiveness to shifting schedules, including early mornings, late afternoons, and variable hours based on test conditions. Approximately 20% travel is expected.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams to surface observations, flag anomalies, and support iterative improvement cycles during testing.
This is an onsite role based in Bay Point, CA. Candidates local to or within commuting distance will be considered.
Candidate Profile
Required Qualifications:
- Possession of a Part 107 certification.
- Logged over 100+ flight hours in varied environments.
- Experience flying in FPV/Acro Mode.
- Understanding of FAA regulations, operational risk, and best practices for safe and compliant drone flight.
- Demonstrated technical aptitude and curiosity for testing new drone technology and solving technical problems in real-time.
- Strong critical thinking and attention to detail for issue identification, results documentation, and improvement iteration.
- Experience working with PX4, ArduPilot, Auterion, or Herelink-based systems.
- Experience contributing to drone development, aerospace, or robotic testing programs.
- Effective collaboration skills with cross-functional teams, particularly engineers, operators, and leadership.
- Ability to fly different flight modes to collect data and provide feedback on new drones.
- Clear and purposeful communication skills for writing flight logs, surfacing blockers, and presenting findings.
FAA certification details will be verified through the FAA Airmen Inquiry system during the interview process. The FAA certificate number will be required to confirm credentials and is used solely for eligibility verification.
