Job Description

SAIC seeks dedicated Part-time Remote Pilot Operators (RPOs) to join the Controller Training Solutions (CTS) team, supporting air traffic controller training services for the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) at the FAA Academy. The RPO simulates the roles of pilots and other controllers within an Air Traffic Control (ATC) training environment. Utilizing a simulated radar display and voice communication system, the RPO replicates pilot actions and communications with remote ATC facilities during medium and high-fidelity training exercises. Key responsibilities include receiving voice commands from students, accurately inputting simulated pilot actions into the automated system, translating displayed information into appropriate ATC terminology, and responding to students via the voice communication system using proper phraseology. Successful candidates will complete required certifications, including classroom (airspace and procedures test) and lab (performance as an RPO on all positions) assessments.

Required Qualifications

  • US Citizenship is required.
  • Ability to obtain and maintain a Public Trust clearance.
  • A minimum of a high school diploma or equivalent.
  • Demonstrated basic computer proficiency.
  • Ability to read and interpret technical materials such as diagrams and manuals.
  • Ability to speak clearly and be understood.

Desired Skills and Experience

  • Experience working within a multidisciplinary team environment (e.g., Multimedia Developers, Quality Assurance, Instructional System Designers, Subject Matter Experts, Instructors).
  • Experience and certification in ATC Tower, TRACON, or En Route simulation labs.
  • Effective oral and written communication skills.
  • Working knowledge of the FAAO JO 7110.65.
  • Effective team-building skills.
  • Proficiency in MS Office Suite (Word, PowerPoint, Excel, etc.).
  • Basic familiarization with current technological tools such as tablets, notebooks, and applications.
  • Basic familiarization or experience with pilot/controller communications or phraseology.
