Position Summary
Griffon Aerospace is seeking an experienced External Pilot to join the flight test and training team for the Group 3 UAS program, supporting U.S. Army requirements. The successful candidate will be responsible for the manual control of aircraft during critical flight phases, including takeoff, cruise, landing, and emergency procedures, utilizing a hand controller or radio transmitter. This role requires exceptional situational awareness, precision control, and the ability to perform effectively within a military flight test environment.
Key Responsibilities

Serve as External Pilot for unmanned aircraft systems weighing 250+ pounds.

Manually control aircraft during takeoff, cruise, landing, and emergency situations.

Collaborate with Internal Pilots, Mission Commanders, and Ground Control Station operators.

Participate in pre-flight and post-flight briefings.

Assist in the development of flight test plans, procedures, standard operating procedures (SOPs), and checklists.

Provide technical input for aircraft control system modifications.

Perform aircraft maintenance, troubleshooting, and repairs to ensure operational readiness.

Support field operations in domestic and overseas environments.

Ensure compliance with all safety protocols and operational regulations.

Participate in the training of new pilots and the development of flight training programs.

Document and report flight performance, system anomalies, and issues.
Required Qualifications
-
Minimum of 3 years of experience as an External Pilot for Group 3 or larger UAS (250+ pounds).

Demonstrated advanced proficiency in manually flying fixed-wing aircraft via hand controller/radio transmitter.

Comprehensive understanding of aerodynamics, flight control systems, and UAS operations.

Ability to maintain precise control in various weather conditions.

Excellent communication skills and team-oriented mindset.

Valid driver's license and ability to travel to test sites.

Ability to obtain and maintain a DOT medical certificate.

Ability to obtain and maintain an FAA Class II medical certificate.

Physical ability to maintain visual line of sight with aircraft during operations.

U.S. citizenship is required.
Preferred Qualifications

Experience with military UAS programs, specifically Army aviation systems.

Background in flight testing or developmental aircraft programs.

Experience in tuning autopilot flight controls.

Knowledge of Army aviation procedures, tactical operations, and FAA regulations.

Prior military aviation experience.

Experience with simulator training systems.

Physical Requirements

Clearance and Travel

Security Clearance:
Ability to obtain and maintain a U.S. Government security clearance is required.

Travel:
30-50% travel required to test sites, customer locations, and potential deployment locations.
