Job Description:
The Ground School Instructor (GSI is a management position assigned to a fleet Flight Standards and Training department. Provides instruction on aircraft systems and flight procedures to UPS Flight Crewmembers and contract customers for the safe operation of the aircraft in normal, abnormal, and emergency situations. The GSI contributes to the development and implementation of the Ground School training curriculum and maintains Ground School training materials, records, and reports. Maintains current flight systems publications and bulletins and supports the alignment of training practices with the operational environment. The GSI may be required to perform other duties as assigned, i.e. act as POC for community service projects, edit manuals, audit programs, etc.
Key Responsibilities:
+ Functions as a subject matter expert in the content of the Advanced Qualification Program Manual (AQPM).
+ Builds positive relationships with other subject matter experts (SMEs), FAA, airline leaders, and other stakeholders.
+ Trains flight crewmembers to enhance performance capabilities through aircraft systems knowledge and flight procedures in a classroom or flight training device.
+ Evaluate flight crewmembers in their progression through syllabus, identifying possible gaps and providing recommendations when necessary.
+ Operate flight simulation training devices to demonstrate systems, their functions, and procedures for flight operations.
+ Collaborates with Full Flight Simulator Programmers to provide direction on the selection of training program settings as required.
+ Participates in peer evaluations to provide performance feedback and maintain training standardization.
+ Reviews aircraft systems, procedures, federal regulations, and UPS policies to aid in reducing service failures and to promote understanding of reference material information with crewmembers
+ Provides technical and regulatory guidance when collaborating with Flight Operations and Flight Training teams regarding proposed training, manual changes and procedural changes to ensure FAA compliance, crew safety, and service reliability.
+ Accomplishes supervision of employees to include certifying timecards, ensuring compliance, conducting feedback reviews, and completing career development processes.
+ Conducts line flying observations on a regular basis to maintain and enhance operational knowledge and instructional qualifications.
Required Skills:
+ Working knowledge/understanding of flight operations, flight operations terminology and Federal Aviation Regulations.
+ Exceptional verbal and written skills required, with emphasis on business / technical writing.
+ Ability to speak in front of large audiences including conducting presentations.
+ A self-starter who can work independently coupled with a team-oriented attitude.
+ Possesses proficiency and proven experience with the MS Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint)
Preferred Skills:
+ Bachelor’s Degree or higher from an accredited college or university.
+ Previous experience instructing/teaching in a corporate, airline or military environment.
+ Knowledge of Part 121 or 135 carrier operations.
+ Commercial Certificate with /Instrument Rating.
+ Experience in technical documentation, compliance, or quality assurance environments.
+ Ability to analyze data and/or complex regulatory documentation to make decisions.
