Job Overview: Air Traffic Basics Instructor-I
SAIC is seeking experienced aviation professionals for the position of full-time Air Traffic Basics Instructor-I. Located onsite at the FAA Academy in Oklahoma City, OK, this role supports Air Traffic Controller Training services for the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA). Candidates are responsible for delivering high-quality classroom instruction to developmental air traffic control students and maintaining ATC Instructor-I certification.
Note for FERS Retirees:
Earnings received in this capacity as an ATC Instructor, ATC Training Instructional Supervisor, or Contractor Site Supervisor are exempt from Supplemental Annuity earnings limits for FERS retirees between the ages of 56 and 62.
Key Responsibilities

Conduct and administer core courses, including Air Traffic Basics (Terminal), Air Traffic Basics (En Route), and Air Traffic Basics TRACON.

Provide instruction on aviation topics such as aerodynamics, aviation charts, and airport markings.

Participate in the administration of Human Performance for ATC (HPATC) courses.

Support Instructional Systems Design (ISD) projects, including the development, revision, and maintenance of training curriculum.
Required Qualifications

Must be a U.S. Citizen with the ability to obtain and maintain a Public Trust clearance.

Must possess a High School Diploma or equivalent (GED).

Meet one of the following experience criteria:

Three years of experience as a certified flight instructor; OR
-
Instrument-rated pilot status plus a minimum of three years of experience as an instructor in an equivalent position; OR
-
Minimum of three years of experience as a facility-certified Air Traffic Control Specialist (ATCS) in a U.S. Civilian or U.S. Military facility, plus a minimum of three years of experience as an instructor in an equivalent position.
Desired Skills and Experience

Direct experience as a certified ATC Instructor at the FAA Academy.

Proven ability to interface effectively with FAA personnel at all levels to align training services with the FAA’s Air Traffic Control mission.

Strong classroom management techniques and platform teaching skills with a student-focused approach to continuous improvement.
