The primary responsibility of a Flight Attendant is to ensure the safety and comfort of passengers throughout each flight. This includes providing attentive care, delivering exceptional customer service, and serving in-flight refreshments. Flight Attendants will contribute to a positive work environment by:
- Ensuring the safety and comfort of customers onboard the aircraft.
- Consistently contributing to a positive and productive work environment with colleagues and passengers.
- Efficiently preparing, serving, and restocking in-flight beverages, meals, and snacks, as well as managing onboard sales of liquor and food.
- Greeting passengers, assisting with carry-on baggage, and delivering onboard announcements.
- Providing effective leadership, direction, and assistance in both emergency and non-emergency situations.
- Calmly resolving passenger issues during flight, including instances of unruly behavior and medical emergencies.
- Ensuring compliance with safety regulations by inspecting and operating cabin components, systems, and emergency equipment such as escape slides, fire extinguishers, portable oxygen bottles, and automatic external defibrillators.
- Adhering to established procedures and performance standards without supervision.
Minimum requirements for the position include:
- Must be at least 21 years of age.
- Possession of a high school diploma or equivalency.
- A current, valid U.S. or foreign passport valid for at least 12 months after the application date, along with any necessary visas for travel between the United States, Canada, Mexico, and the Bahamas.
- Excellent English communication skills to effectively convey safety information and prepare clear, detailed reports of irregular, emergency, and security events.
- Proficiency in utilizing electronic devices and PEDs for audio and video systems, in-flight purchases, and other flight and training-related duties.
- Ability to work varied shifts, up to 16 hours, including nights, weekends, and holidays.
- Willingness to travel frequently and spend extended periods alone and without supervision.
- Reliability and punctuality.
- Willingness to relocate to one of the company's crew domiciles after successful completion of SkyWest InFlight Training in Atlanta, GA; Boise, ID; Chicago, IL; Colorado Springs, CO; Dallas/Fort Worth, TX; Denver, CO; Detroit, MI; Fresno, CA; Houston, TX; Los Angeles, CA; Minneapolis/St. Paul, MN; Palm Springs, CA; Phoenix, AZ; Portland, OR; Salt Lake City, UT; San Diego, CA; San Francisco, CA; Seattle, WA; or Tucson, AZ.
Physical and other requirements:
- Height and weight must allow for safe aircraft operation, not exceeding specific aircraft dimensions. Specifically, height must be between 5'0" and 6'0" without shoes.
- Physical ability to perform tasks requiring frequent walking, bending below ankle level and reaching above shoulder level; ability to open emergency exits and close aircraft doors weighing up to 45 pounds; push and pull beverage carts weighing up to 250 pounds; and lift, store, transport, and reach for items with or without reasonable accommodation.
- Corrected vision should not exceed 20/40.
- Normal or corrected hearing within 15-17kHZ range.
- Professional, neat, and clean appearance.
- No extreme hairstyles or colors are allowed.
- Single stud nose piercing 2mm or smaller is allowed. Two piercings are allowed per ear. Gauges must be plugged with clear or skin-toned plugs and must not exceed 1/2”. Other facial, mouth, or tongue piercings are not permitted.
- Visible tattoos are permitted within dimension and location limitations. Tattoos outside of these guidelines must be concealed by the uniform or skin-tone compatible makeup. Offensive tattoos must not be visible. Bandages are not approved for tattoo coverage.
- Must wear a company-issued uniform and compliant face mask/covering as required.
New hire flight attendants are guaranteed 76 flight hours as a reserve after completing initial training. The starting pay is $28.86 per flight hour, with a base compensation of $2,193.36 gross per month based on a 76-hour guarantee. Additionally, a $2.25 per diem is paid for each hour on duty away from the domicile.
