Position Overview

Republic Airways is seeking a highly skilled and safety-conscious First Officer to join its dynamic flight operations team. The First Officer serves a vital role in supporting the Aircraft Captain, ensuring the safe, timely, and efficient piloting of aircraft, and performing essential aircraft management duties. This position demands an unwavering commitment to safety, strict adherence to all regulatory standards, and a professional demeanor at all times, contributing significantly to Republic Airways' reputation for operational excellence.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

The First Officer's responsibilities are integral to successful flight operations and include, but are not limited to, the following:

  • Collaborating with the Captain to meticulously plan each flight, utilizing all applicable weather information and reports in strict accordance with Company policies, procedures, and Federal Aviation Regulations (FARs).
  • Verifying the airworthiness of the aircraft through comprehensive preflight inspections, ensuring full compliance with FARs and Company standards.
  • Assisting the Captain in planning and managing fuel requirements to ensure safe flight operations in line with all established policies and regulations.
  • Operating the aircraft safely, proficiently, and effectively during designated duty periods under the Captain’s instruction, adhering to FARs and Company operational guidelines.
  • Maintaining an extensive working knowledge of all operated equipment, applicable FARs governing equipment operation, and all Company manuals, policies, procedures, and instructions.
  • Communicating critical operational information, such as turbulent weather conditions or any other factors affecting the flight, to the crew and passengers.
  • Accurately completing the load manifest for each flight.
  • Contributing to a reliable and on-time operation by assisting the Captain in meeting all scheduled report times, departure times, and minimum turn times.
  • Providing support at the terminal to ensure the proper handling of aircraft, passengers, baggage, and cargo.
  • Maintaining consistent and reliable attendance in accordance with Company procedures and practices.
  • Presenting a professional appearance and strictly adhering to the Company uniform dress code.
  • Consistently conducting oneself professionally while on duty, observing all Rules of Conduct as outlined in the Flight Operations Manual, Associate Handbook, and other relevant policies and procedures.
  • Actively pursuing continuous professional training to enhance performance and abilities.
  • Performing additional duties as assigned by the Company and the Captain to support overall flight operations.

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

Candidates must demonstrate the following essential qualifications, knowledge, skills, and abilities:

Education and Experience

  • Possession of a High School diploma or GED equivalent.
  • Must meet the minimum requirements for an Airline Transport Pilot (ATP) or Restricted Airline Transport Pilot (RATP) certificate.
  • Completion of the ATP written exam is strongly preferred.
  • Ability to meet current interview and hiring minimum age and flight hour requirements established by the FAA and Republic Airways.
  • For candidates who meet interview minimums but not hiring minimums, eligibility for hire upon successful completion of the interview process requires:
    • Meeting hiring minimums within six months of the interview date.
    • Having no certificate action since the date of the interview.
    • Having no misdemeanors or felonies since the interview date.
    • Acceptance of a class date within six months of the interview date.

Preferred Education and Experience

  • Prior customer service experience, ideally within an aviation environment.

Language Skills

  • Exceptional ability to read, analyze, interpret, and comprehend complex technical procedures and governmental regulations, often quickly and under stressful or emergency situations.
  • Demonstrated ability to effectively present information and respond to inquiries from management, dispatch, fellow crew members, passengers, air traffic control, and the general public.
  • Proficiency in spoken and understood English, including the capacity to deliver clear verbal commands during emergency scenarios.

Reasoning and Problem-Solving Ability

  • Strong aptitude for solving practical problems and navigating a variety of concrete variables in situations where limited standardization exists.
  • Capability to interpret and synthesize diverse and multiple instructions furnished in written, oral, diagrammatic, or schedule formats.
  • Ability to maintain composure, think clearly, and react swiftly in all types of emergency situations, including, but not limited to: medical emergencies, aircraft decompression, emergency evacuations, fires, security threats, passenger disturbances, and turbulence.

Decision-Making & Impact of Errors

  • Proven ability to make sound decisions that align with strategic objectives. Decisions, while typically of medium range and significance with moderate consequences, may in unusual situations be critical and carry safety-of-flight implications.
  • Understands that unsound decisions could require additional resource expenditure and may impact safety.
  • Capacity to process information rapidly and respond positively during unexpected or serious situations.
  • Demonstrates control over personal and emotional responses, acting appropriately under high levels of stress.

Physical Demands

The role requires the First Officer to meet the following physical demands to successfully perform essential job functions:

  • Ability to climb, balance, stoop, kneel, crouch, squat, and/or crawl.
  • Capacity to sit for extended periods without standing.
  • Capable of lifting or moving items weighing up to 75 pounds at varying heights.
  • Adherence to the visual demands established in the medical standards set by the FAA.
  • Ability to clearly hear verbal communications in person, via telephone, and over a headset, amidst ambient aircraft and passenger noise.
  • Possession of sufficient stamina to work long and sequential duty days, often with frequent changes in temperature, climate, and weather conditions.
  • Ability to move freely, effectively, and quickly within a confined aircraft environment to perform all required functions.
  • Must be able to sit comfortably in the pilot's seat or assigned jump seat with the seatbelt and shoulder harness fastened without any modifications.

Work Environment

The First Officer will operate within a dynamic work environment characterized by:

  • Proximity to moving mechanical parts.
  • Exposure to outdoor weather conditions within open-air hangars and on the flight line for extended durations.
  • A loud noise level, necessitating the use of a headset.
  • A willingness and ability to work extended duty periods on sequential days, including varied schedules that encompass early mornings, nights, overnights, and weekends.

Travel Requirements

This position demands extensive travel, up to 100% of the time, which includes nights, weekends, holidays, and overnight stays. The First Officer must be prepared for extended hours, a lack of consistent scheduling control, and the ability to report to work with little notice. A willingness to relocate based on Republic Airways' operational needs is also required.
