Aviation Pilot
This individual supports the aircraft Captain by ensuring the safe and timely piloting of aircraft, while also performing other essential aircraft management duties.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
To perform this role successfully, the individual must be able to execute each essential duty satisfactorily. - Providing the Captain with comprehensive flight planning, utilizing all relevant weather information and reports in accordance with Company policies, procedures, and Federal Aviation Regulations (FARs).
- Determining aircraft airworthiness according to FARs and Company policies and procedures, completing thorough preflight inspections.
- Collaborating with the Captain to ensure flights are planned and fueled properly for safe operation in accordance with policies and regulations.
- Operating the aircraft safely, properly, and effectively during designated duty periods, adhering to the Captain’s instructions, FARs, and Company policies and procedures.
- Maintaining a thorough and current knowledge of the equipment operated, FARs governing equipment operation, and all relevant manuals, policies, procedures, and other instructions.
- Informing crew and passengers of any turbulent weather conditions or other operational factors affecting the flight.
- Completing the load manifest for each flight.
- Contributing to a reliable and on-time operation by assisting the Captain in meeting all report times, departure times, and minimum turn times.
- Assisting with and ensuring proper handling of aircraft, passengers, baggage, and cargo while at the terminal.
- Maintaining regular and reliable attendance in accordance with Company procedures and practices.
- Presenting a professional appearance and adhering to the Company uniform dress code.
- Conducting oneself professionally at all times while on duty, adhering to the Rules of Conduct outlined in the Flight Operations Manual, Associate Handbook, and other related policies and procedures.
- Continuously pursuing professional training to enhance performance and abilities.
- Performing other duties as assigned by the Company and the Captain.
Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
The following requirements represent the necessary knowledge, skills, and abilities to perform this job effectively:
- High School diploma or GED.
- Must meet the minimum requirements for an ATP or RATP certificate.
- ATP written examination preferred.
- Must meet the current interview and hiring minimum age and flight hours requirements set by the FAA and the Company.
Candidates interviewing with the interview minimums, but not the hiring minimums, will be eligible for hire upon successful completion of the interview process if they:
- Meet the Hiring Minimums within six months of the interview date.
- Have no certificate action since the date of the interview.
- Have no misdemeanors or felonies since the interview date.
- Accept a class date within six months of the interview date.
Preferred Education and/or Experience:
Prior customer service experience, preferably in an aviation environment, is preferred.
Language Skills:
The individual must possess the ability to read, analyze, interpret, and understand technical procedures and governmental regulations, sometimes quickly and under stressful or emergency situations. They must also be able to effectively present information to and respond to questions from management, dispatch, crew, passengers, air traffic control, and the general public. Fluency in English, including the ability to speak and be understood, even when shouting verbal commands during emergency situations, is essential.
Reasoning/Problem Solving Ability:
The individual must be able to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where limited standardization exists. They must be capable of interpreting a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form. The ability to remain calm, think, and react quickly in all types of emergency situations, including medical emergencies, aircraft decompression, emergency evacuations, fires, security threats, passenger disturbances, and turbulence, is crucial.
Decision Making & Impact of Errors:
This role requires making decisions that support strategic direction. Decisions tend to be medium range and of medium significance with moderate consequences, but may in unusual situations be significant and have safety-of-flight consequences. Unsound decisions could require additional expenditure of resources and may impact safety. The individual must be able to process information quickly and react positively during unexpected and/or serious situations. The ability to control personal and emotional responses and act appropriately under high levels of stress is essential.
Physical Demands:
The physical demands described below are representative of those that must be met to successfully perform the essential functions of this job:
- Ability to climb, balance, stoop, kneel, crouch, squat, and/or crawl.
- Ability to sit without standing for extended periods.
- Capability to lift or move items at varying heights weighing up to 75 pounds.
- Ability to meet the visual demands set in the medical standards established by the FAA.
- Ability to clearly hear verbal communications in person, on the telephone, and over a headset amidst ambient aircraft and passenger noise.
- Possession of the stamina needed to work long days, on sequential days, with frequent changes in temperatures, climate, and weather conditions.
- Ability to move about the aircraft and perform all required functions freely, effectively, and quickly in a confined environment.
- Ability to sit in the pilot’s seat or assigned jump seat with seatbelt and shoulder harness fastened without any modifications.
Work Environment:
The work environment characteristics described below are representative of those encountered while performing the essential functions of this job:
- The position requires the ability to work near moving mechanical parts.
- The individual must be able to withstand outdoor weather conditions within an open-air hangar and on the flight line for extended periods.
- The noise level may be loud, and headset use is required.
- The individual must be willing and able to work extended duty periods on sequential days, as well as a varied schedule, including early mornings, nights, overnights, and weekends.
Travel Requirements:
This position requires up to 100% travel, including nights, weekends, holidays, and overnight stays. The individual must be able to work extended hours with limited scheduling control and be ready to report to work with little notice. Willingness to relocate based on the Company’s operational needs is also required.
