The Opportunity: Aviation Intern, Corporate Flight Operations

RTX Corporation invites aspiring aviation professionals to join its esteemed corporate aviation department, RTFlight, as an Aviation Intern. RTFlight operates a sophisticated fleet of corporate jets and helicopters under FAR Part 91, managed by a highly professional team of pilots, flight attendants, maintenance, and dispatch personnel. This integral role offers an unparalleled opportunity to gain hands-on, firsthand knowledge of business aircraft operations and contribute significantly to a culture of safety and excellence.

Key Responsibilities and Learning Experiences

The Aviation Intern will immerse themselves in various facets of corporate flight operations, working closely with company mentors and the Assistant Chief Pilot. This dynamic role involves:

  • Performing diverse administrative and office duties essential to daily flight department functions.
  • Contributing to and completing special projects designed to enhance operational efficiency and understanding.
  • Gaining comprehensive exposure to and operational understanding of:
    • Domestic and International Flight Planning and Operations
    • Aircraft Maintenance and Servicing protocols
    • Advanced Customer Service in an executive aviation environment
    • Aircraft and Crew Scheduling methodologies
    • Robust Safety Management Systems (SMS)
    • Aviation Security procedures
    • Adherence to International Standard for Business Aircraft Operations (IS-BAO) Compliance

Qualifications

Required Qualifications:

  • Current enrollment in an Aviation Bachelor's degree program is mandatory.
  • Completion of a minimum of 60 academic credits prior to the internship start date.
  • Applicants must not be scheduled to graduate before August 2026.
  • Demonstrated proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Word) for at least one year.
  • Submission of academic transcripts with the application is required.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • A positive attitude and strong self-motivation are highly valued.
  • Possession of a Private Pilot's certificate is strongly desired.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.

Compensation & Benefits

The estimated salary range for this onsite internship role is $37,000 - $82,000 USD. This range is a good faith estimate reflecting various experience levels and will be determined based on factors such as role responsibilities, candidate's work experience, location, education, and key skills. RTX is committed to providing a comprehensive total rewards package.

Additionally, hired applicants may be considered for annual short-term and/or long-term incentive compensation programs, contingent upon the position level and any applicable collective-bargaining agreements. These payments are not guaranteed and are subject to individual, business unit, and/or company performance.

This is an Onsite role located at the BDL Airport facilities in East Granby, CT. Employees in Onsite roles primarily work at the specified location and are critical to our operational success.
