Role Summary

Serving as the primary representative of Horizon Air, the Flight Attendant embodies authentic hospitality while representing Alaska Airlines. The role requires comprehensive knowledge of both inflight service procedures and critical safety protocols. A key expectation is maintaining a positive and approachable demeanor with both passengers and colleagues, contributing to an airline environment that customers appreciate and employees value.

Key Duties

  • Ensuring complete understanding and adherence to all safety regulations.
  • Verifying that all safety equipment on the aircraft is in functional condition.
  • Warmly greeting passengers, assisting with seating assignments, and managing carry-on baggage stowage and security.
  • Clearly explaining and demonstrating the use of safety equipment and emergency procedures.
  • Preparing and serving meals and beverages, including alcoholic selections.
  • Effectively marketing and processing sales for onboard products using a mobile device.
  • Calmly and effectively resolving passenger situations during flight, including handling medical emergencies.
  • Answering passenger inquiries regarding flight operations and providing destination information.
  • Performing additional duties as assigned to ensure smooth flight operations and passenger comfort.

Required Qualifications

Prospective Flight Attendants must meet the following requirements:

  • A minimum of two years of experience in customer or community service is required.
  • Must possess an unwavering dedication to safety.
  • Must adhere to specific aircraft dimensions regarding body size to ensure ability to utilize jump seats, harnesses, and navigate cabin aisles and emergency exits without modification.
  • Must be able to meet the company's standards for grooming, uniform, and appearance.
  • Must demonstrate the physical capability to perform the duties of a flight attendant.
  • Must be willing and able to relocate to any of Horizon Air's flight attendant bases: Seattle, WA; Portland, OR; Medford, OR; Boise, ID; Spokane, WA; Anchorage, AK; and Everett, WA.
  • Willingness to serve alcohol is necessary.
  • Basic computer literacy and comfort using technology are required.
  • Must be flexible and available to work varied schedules, which include nights, weekends, and holidays.
  • Ability and willingness to travel extensively is essential.
  • Must possess adaptability to perform diverse duties and maintain effectiveness under stressful conditions.
  • Able to attend and successfully complete four weeks of paid training in Portland, OR.
  • Possess or be able to obtain a current passport granting unlimited access in and out of the United States. Employees with non-U.S. passports must hold all necessary travel documentation. Ability to fly unrestricted in and out of Canada is required.
  • Proficiency in communicating in English is mandatory.
  • Possession of a high school diploma or equivalent is required.
  • Minimum age of 21 years old.
  • Must be authorized to work in the U.S.

Additional Requirements and Information

As part of the application process, candidates will be required to complete an audio assessment, estimated to take approximately 40 minutes.

Flight Attendants are required to obtain and maintain an Airport SIDA badge provided by the airport authority. Failure to qualify for or maintain the SIDA badge will result in termination of employment.

Horizon Air adheres to specific grooming standards, including a tattoo policy which states no visible tattoos on the face, front of the neck, or chest. Tattoos on hands are limited to one per hand, not exceeding the size of a quarter. Tattoos in other areas must not exceed the size of a credit card and must not be offensive. Specific rules apply to tattoos on the back of the neck and behind the ears, requiring them to be non-visible from a direct view. Covering tattoos with makeup is not permitted; only uniform pieces or approved jewelry/watches are allowed for covering.

Compensation and Benefits

The starting rate for this union-represented position is defined by the collective bargaining agreement. The first-year step rate is currently $20.66 per hour, as per the contract.
