Role Summary

The First Officer Experienced is responsible for ensuring a safe journey and a positive experience for all Horizon Air (QX) guests while maintaining the highest level of professionalism. This position is union-represented.

Key Duties

  • Perform as Second in Command for the transport of passengers, mail, and freight. This includes pre-flight paperwork, conduct of flight, and post-flight duties.
  • Comply with Federal Aviation Regulations (FAA), company flight procedures, and internal policies to ensure flight safety.
  • Coordinate operational tasks including fueling, loading, and passenger handling in accordance with the FOM, FARs, and CRFs.
  • Utilize Cockpit Resource Management and collaborate effectively with operational departments.
  • Maintain a professional image, including adherence to grooming standards and behavioral expectations as a company representative.

Required Experience, Education, and Skills

  • Minimum 200 hours of FAA-approved Prior Qualifying Time (as defined by FAR 121.436(a)(3)) in part 121, part 91, part 135, or military operations.
  • Minimum 1,465 hours of total flight time or R-ATP qualification.
  • 500 hours of cross-country flight time (or 200 if R-ATP or military qualified).
  • 100 hours of night flight time.
  • 250 total hours as Pilot in Command (including 100 hours of cross-country and 25 hours of night flight).
  • 75 hours of instrument flight time (actual or simulated).
  • 25 hours of multi-engine flight time.
  • Current FAA Commercial Pilot Certificate with multi-engine and instrument ratings.
  • Current First-Class FAA Medical Certificate.
  • FCC Restricted Radiotelephone Operator Permit.
  • Valid passport allowing unrestricted travel to and from the U.S.
  • Valid Driver’s License.
  • Excellent judgment, leadership, command ability, and professional maturity.
  • Ability to communicate in English.
  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Minimum age of 21 years old.
  • Must be authorized to work in the U.S.
  • Willingness to accept base assignments in Seattle, WA; Portland, OR; Spokane, WA; Boise, ID; Medford, OR; Anchorage, AK; or Everett, WA.
  • Willingness to work a varied schedule, including weekends, holidays, and multiple days away from home.

Preferred Qualifications

  • 100 hours of multi-engine flight time.
  • 100 hours of flight time within the last 12 months.
  • Four-year degree from an accredited University.

Airport SIDA Badge Requirements

Employees are required to obtain and maintain an airport-issued SIDA badge in good standing. Failure to qualify for or maintain this badge will result in termination of employment.

Compensation and Benefits

  • First-year pay rate: $92.72.
  • Monthly pay guarantee (jet): 75 credit hours; Reserve pay guarantee: 73 credit hours.
