Aviation Technical Writer - Pilot Manuals
Garmin International is seeking a highly motivated Aviation Technical Writer to join its team in Olathe, Kansas. This is a full-time, regular position during core business hours. The Aviation Technical Writer is responsible for creating user-friendly pilot guides, installation manuals, and maintenance manuals for the company's avionics product portfolio.
Responsibilities:
- Research and gather data to develop pilot guides, quick reference guides, installation manuals, maintenance manuals, and service documents.
- Create electronic documentation utilizing word processing and desktop publishing software.
- Collaborate with Design Engineers regarding product specifications and development.
- Research airframe technical characteristics to accurately document the functions and features of specific aviation products.
- Provide software beta testing feedback to Design Engineers, Program Managers, and the Human Factors team.
- Facilitate the revision of mechanical drawings and screen captures.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s Degree in Journalism, Communications, or a related technical field, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Excellent academic record (cumulative GPA of 3.0 or higher is preferred).
- Demonstrated experience in the aviation industry, working with and/or using avionics.
- Proficiency in using word processing tools such as Microsoft Word.
- Exceptional attention to detail, proactive work ethic, and ability to prioritize and multitask in a fast-paced environment.
- Strong verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills.
- Team-oriented with a positive attitude and ability to collaborate effectively.
Desired Qualifications:
- Experience and/or knowledge of avionics.
- Possession of a Private Pilot Certificate.
- Instrument Rating preferred.
- Proficiency in Adobe Creative Cloud (InDesign, Photoshop, or Illustrator).
- Familiarity with aviation phraseology and flight operations procedures.
- Basic understanding of S1000D documentation standards.
