Job Description
The First Officer is responsible for the safety and security of the aircraft, passengers, and cargo onboard, within the scope of their duties and in the absence of the Commander. They will maintain a thorough understanding of Etihad's Operations Manual to ensure professional and safe performance of their responsibilities. The First Officer provides assistance to the Commander with administrative tasks related to the flight, and supports the maintenance of high standards of crew discipline, conduct, and personal appearance. They execute flight duties in accordance with Etihad's operating policies and procedures, as assigned by the Commander.
The First Officer is responsible for confirming the safe navigation of the aircraft, maintaining an independent check of the aircraft’s geographic position, and ensuring safe terrain and weather clearance. They are expected to conduct the flight in accordance with the current flight plan, Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs), and the Commander’s instructions when the Commander is not at the controls. Upon the Commander's return, the First Officer must notify them of any changes to the flight plan, Air Traffic Control (ATC) directives, or geographic position. They are expected to provide timely and pertinent advice, information, and assistance to the Commander to contribute positively to the safe and efficient execution of the flight. The First Officer maintains a high personal standard of discipline, conduct, and appearance, representing Etihad Airways at all times. In the event of Commander incapacitation, the highest-ranking First Officer assigned to the flight assumes command.
Qualifications
Candidates must possess a minimum of 2500 hours of total flying time and a minimum of 1500 hours on multi-crew, glass cockpit (aircraft with a FMS coupled to APFDS), or high-performance military jet aircraft. Additionally, a minimum of 1000 hours must be on one of the following aircraft types: A330, A340, A350, or A380. A valid type rating on any Airbus Fly-By-Wire (FBW) aircraft is required, with a minimum validity of 2 months at the time of joining. Candidates must hold a current and unrestricted ICAO Airline Transport Pilot License (ATPL). Frozen ATPLs are not accepted unless held by a UAE citizen. Candidates should have flown an Airbus FBW aircraft within the last 12 months, and hold an unrestricted, current Class 1 medical certificate. The maximum age limit for this position is 50 years old. English language fluency (written and verbal) at Level 4 or better is required. For flight hours accumulated with inflight relief, 75% of those hours will be counted towards the required minimums.
Salary & Benefits
The position offers a fixed monthly salary of AED 26,000. In addition to the base salary, a flight duty allowance is provided, based on years of service: AED 40 per block hour for 1-6 years of service, and AED 56 per block hour for 7-10 years of service. A meal allowance during layovers is provided, with hourly rates varying by region: AED 12 per hour for Middle East/GCC/Sub Continent, AED 15 per hour for Asia/Far East, AED 18 per hour for Africa/Australasia, and AED 23 per hour for Europe/Americas. A housing allowance of up to AED 160,000 per year is provided, alongside education allowances of AED 40,000 for primary and AED 55,000 for secondary education, for up to three children. The compensation package includes an income protection scheme, 42 days of annual leave, staff travel benefits, end-of-service benefits, and accidental and life insurance coverage.
